Hey guys, I haven't posted in a little while. And want to get back into things here

I've been a heroin addict for 5 years. Last month I got a felony possession charge. I came into inpatient rehab last month also for 30 days. Right after I got out of jail last month I overdosed and by the time the paramedics got to me I was blue and had no pulse. I also found out I have Hepatitis C while in treatment. I'm down here in south florida now at a halfway house and I feel great. I'm going to be moving down here permanently. I'm going to get my mom to send me my lasers and then it's time to get busy. I'm working a 12 step program now and have some clean time. Just thought I would check in and I wish you all the best!

Wow, sounds like a rough run, hope the road ahead is a good one!

Yo Mo, long time no see. I am glad your are still hanging out here.
I wish you well with the treatment and come out healthy !!

Sorry to hear you have Hep C and a Heroin problem. I am just curious how you got into heroin in the first place? I don't know many people who have used it. I do know many that tried Meth, and all but one survived (sort of ~ mind is permaf^cked though). I guess you'll be taking anti-virals to try and get the Hep C infection under control ? Ribavirin, peginterferon ?
Are you trying methadone treatment? If not working you might try, looking up ibogaine (iboga), it might be an alterative for you?

Again sorry to hear about your troubles. Wish only the best possible outcome.

Kudos for your honesty.

Facing the problem is half the battle won. Hope you kick that habit and continue with your other one (Lasers) :)

Good luck man.

Best of luck. I wouldn't know, but I've heard heroin is a tough one to kick, and it seems like you're doing a great job with it! Keep up the good work, and can't wait to see you back here in no time!

Hang in there man. True addictions can be hard to kick. Hopefully you have a medical professional that can help you.

A couple of things that might be of help:
Vivatrol (sp?) by injection or naltrexone (oral medication)

The pills are cheaper but have less success since its a daily med and you have to want to take it for it to help. The injections are much much more expensive but since one lasts something like 30 days compliance is much easier.

I assume these would be of help. They are used to treat opiate addictions and have also been proven to help with alcohol addition issues.

Your best bet is to make sure you have a doctor of therapist that you can truly trust and talk to them about this. Doing it alone' it will be much harder to get past.

Why would anyone advise illegal substances to cure one's addiction to other illegal substances? >.>

Thanks for the support guys. I'm done with the detox.
They use Suboxone now instead of Methadone. Methadone detox takes several weeks though. I don't want to be on methadone or any other maintenance or harm reduction drug. I'm about 13 days sober now and feel great.

As for Ibogane, I know alot about psychedelics and would love to try it. It makes you lose your ego and you have to revisit all the crap you've done in your head. They have clinics in Mexico and I've heard so many success stories from it. Bottom line though is you have to continue to work at your sobriety because it may take the desire to use away but there is more to addiction than wanting to use. It goes deep.

I'm a big fan of DMT and have used it with some success before, while different than Ibogane it is a very very powerful introspective drug.

I got started using Oxycodone in college then graduated from school and a girlfriend turned me on to the 'hate'. That girlfriend died 6 months ago from an overdose. I've been using drugs for longer than that though. It started with cocaine and progressed.

I can't use Vivitrol now because of the Hep C, it aggravates the liver.

Again thanks for the support guys and I will keep you up to date on my progress. I feel great now, I'm in a 3 bed 2 bath house with 3 roomates 2 blocks from the beach in West Palm Beach FL.

p.s. does anyone listen to the Joe Rogan experience podcast?

Glad to hear you're sober! But just because you kicked one addiction doesn't mean you should start another. Unless it's lasers ;)

The drug law is very arbitrary. Certain illegal substances are no less medicine than legal substances. When the government refuses to acknowledge this, sometimes it's best to take things into your own hands. After what I've heard, ibogaine is perhaps the best medicine against addiction. It is in itself not addictive and the abuse potential cannot be compared with heroin in any way. It's not like you're replacing one mishabit with another, ibogaine is a one-time treatment.

I would have to second Grix.

One of my interests is traditional medicinal plants of various indigenous peoples and it has interested me to read about some of the scientific studies going on related to current medicinal and therapeutic uses of some of these plants.

Psychoactive substance are not inherently addicting simply because they have certain mind altering affects. Ibogaine or Iboga is being used by a Psychiatrist in Vancouver to treat Heroin addicts. I believe the nature of the experience received with Iboga actually helps addicts change their perception about the drugs in their addiction and can result in quite a life changing experience that has been quite successful.

Some Hallucinogens can give such a strong insightful experience as part of their effects that it can take someone outside their current or stuck /ingrained mindset or perception of themselves or their life that can be really beneficial. Most of the problem is the fact that these hallucinogens have such strict regulation based on a false sense or immorality or scientifically disproven theories of their dangers related to their consumption that actual scientific research on them is severely limited without merit.

I believe Psychiatrists actually used LSD under close supervision together with therapy techniques in the (60's or 70s? for treating Alcohol addictions and I think I remember reading it had better results than Alcoholics Anonymous.

I wish you well in your recovery Joe Mo, and that is really cool your are doing your best to win the fight, which you will!

You have a lot of work ahead of you, to put this behind you. Hepatitis C, will require a very healthy life style to keep in remission. Try to think healthy thoughts, and stay clean to fight the Hepatitis.

The longer you are clean, the more likely that you will find the right path for you. I'm pullin for you, just keep on keepin on. Bro.
