A Little Working HeNe Set

May I ask why people are so interested in HeNe lasers? What are HeNe lasers used for?

Mostly just the novelty of having a high voltage plasma discharge gas tube laser... It's a big and beautiful glass tube where you can actually see how the laser works. It's kinda cool for just that fact alone.

As for what they're used for, I suppose they're good for holography or IDK, spectral imaging or something. Their beam characteristics are quite good, much rounder more even beam, good divergence, etc.

Kewl, I'd buy it if i had enough confidence in the mail system. Shipping from Cali to Italy is quite a haul.

i think im going to pick this little guy up....i love the style of the HeNe with glowing tube

Well then, I'll have to get one at that price. Might need help putting it together though.

Folks here can help you, Brando. Do not be afraid of the gas! Everyone must get gassy. :)
I'd love to see more LPF people jumping into HeNe's and ArIon's.

i just bought it! i figured for $30 i cant really go wrong. I know nothing about these laser except they run on high voltage.....i think its time for me to do some research while this is in the mail

You bet it uses high voltage! This set comes with a power supply though, so you should be fine there. Just don't touch the wires.

As far as my basic knowledge goes and reading stories of people getting shocked, only handle the laser with one hand to help avoid a shock, they can be very nasty.

I don't think this laser poses too much of a lethal risk, but it can never hurt to be careful. And sometimes high voltage is good voltage :)

The one hand rule is good one when working with higher voltages.

It can't keep you from getting shocked, but it does decrease the chances of the electrical flowing across your heart!
