8x Drive Mini "GB"....

Man, I'm having such a hard time keeping my tongue off the floor...I SO wish I had the money for one of these! Gah! And for one of jayrob's glass lenses...28% extra power on 400mW or more...Oh, man...
 





Bulkunit = OEM it will Just be a drive Unit and thats all the $199 one is the Box instuction booklet and cables and what not.
for what we use them for Here Bulk = OEM units are perfect less crap to throw away when your done ^^

yea that's what I thought also. I've seem OEM before, but never "bulk model" before.
 
Yep, i also confirmed this with Dave just now, he said the same thing..

So i guess we have this option. It can wait till the end of the month - that's how long the price is valid ($159), or we can do it right now, if everyone here so decides!

Or, we could do it partially at first (only those who want/NEED one NOW), with the others waiting for the price to drop/change?




Before Manuel (Krutz) suggested this idea, i was going to purchase two $179 drives for Scopeguy and myself anyway!

For myself, i don't see a reason for waiting - especially now that the price is even lower than i expected (half of what i paid for my first GGW!)! I'd like to get AT LEAST the two i originally wanted to add in the "murder pool" ASAP..

I know it's possible the price will drop in weeks and i'll be a little sad, but on the other hand, i would like to have an 8x laser soon. And not just to torture it for "scientific purposes" (8x MURDER experiment)... There are other things i need an 8x laser for - Custom Lens tests for example... (And i'd like to finally make an 8x i can keep when it's finished! :angel:)


I'd like to hear from everyone on the list, who is in NOW, and who wants to WAIT...
I'll edit the list to show what's already decided, and then keep editing it as people decide.

The list is complete, as far as names go. I also added, who wants one NOW (at $159), and who wants to wait, info gathered from what you guys said above...


I still need three answers:
- Shogoki
- Canuke
- T_Warne


Do you want to go for the $159 drive NOW, or wait and hope the price will drop?

The rest of you, please check the list is correct, and when i get the last three answers, i'll arrange an order for the drives marked yellow....
The ones marked green, keep me posted on your wishes, or interesting developements, especially if someone finds a better deal!

i would wait with buying all drives until at least its clear when the 12x will be there? but then we cant securely find the two weakest ones, with only a half pool of diodes..
i say lets wait a bit, but am okay to go on immediately! we will eventually check both the 8x and 12x diodes anyway ;-)

That's the problem...

If i only have half of them here now, and select the weakest two for the experiment, then the rest of you order later, someone could get a diode "weaker" (= lower efficiency) than one of the murdered ones!

And that would be sad...

We're gonna have to figure this thing out!
I want to order Glenn's and mine right away. I think $159 is a damn good price! That would give me five diodes to chose from, but the ones ordered later would/could be pretty much random.

I was also hoping to share USPS Express from US to Slovenia for as many sleds as possible at once, so we spread out the shipping cost..

No, not 28% on top of 400mW!
The lens is required to get to 400mW in the first place!


The way you put it, it sounded like the power after a plastic lens would be 400mW, which would be hard to reach and the plastic lens would "melt"....

But then the power after short-FL glass would be ~504mW, so it's been done before.. There are a few 500mW+ 8x's around!

Yea that's exactly it. I was under the impression that we would either all wait, or all go right now. Because if half buy now and half buy in 2 weeks, then the shipping price for everyone doubles. I'm thinking maybe we should just go ahead and order now. Also, there is no guarantee that the price will go down even after the 12x comes out. After all, a $90 price difference between the two drives isn't ridiculous anyway.
 
oh noooo! they went back up to $179.99. This stinks, but I guess that's the risk we take. I feel bad for voting to wait now :(

I seriously thought that price was good till 10/31, I guess I read it wrong. I'm going into chat with newegg now.
 
it appears that the deal that is valid till the end of the month is just the free Verbatim blu-ray discs when you buy the drive...
