6x Blu

Re: 4x Blu

Very nice, note the different color of the reflection in the AR coating on these. I will be nervous extracting that! have you shorted the pins on the diode with a drop of solder yet (esd protection)?

Re: 4x Blu

Wrist straped myself and then into an ESD bag -- ZIP !!
I grounded myself for the above pictures.  The solder dot isn't a bad idea either.

Mike

The optics pop out with little more than finger pressure. The diodes are a little harder but you bush on the carrier

Re: 4x Blu

Hey Mike, no rush there, but do you think that we would be able to tell if that diode is 'hotter' than the one that I took out of a 2 X writer by comparing it with this 'partial' (until I killed it) plot that I started with your graph?

Re: 4x Blu

Jay --

That graph of mine was a wild ride but short lived. Wish I still had that one.
However --- Your plot over mine shows a lower efficiency Po to current ratio. I don't know why you had to use more current to get similar output.
These diodes are newer technology and we are seeing wierd variations but you seem to have excess mA for the po. What meters are you using?

Re: 4x Blu

The readings were taken with the LPM-1 at the 473nm setting, and multiplied by 1.75. Then I took those figures and made the plot. But, I think that my diode may have been damaged, because I had to solder to a short pin. (I cut the pin short before I knew that the pin out was different than the red diodes) I think that the case of the diode got too hot during soldering, and damaged it...

This diode was from a Sony BWU-100A, 2 X blu-ray writer. The three pins were visually the same as a red diode. But the diode did not work until I connected to these pins:

Re: 4x Blu

But it is interesting, that in the comparison of the open can vs Senkat diodes, the open can is lower power for the same current as well. Until you get over around 375mA's...

Re: 4x Blu

Although I ordered mine earlier than Mike,
today, life became good. ;D
Better late than never!

Re: 4x Blu

Wow you must have gotten a good deal for you to buy 2.

Re: 4x Blu

Not that good, I just decided that it might take 2 to make a good working one! And if I get two, all the better.

Re: 4x Blu

guys! THE LASER WORLD IS WAITIG :))

(if it was only a bit cheaper...)

good luck !

Re: 4x Blu

Isn't it some optics in the BR burners for combining beams? Use them and use both BR diodes for double the power 8-)

Re: 4x Blu

drlava & Mike, you guys are killing me here! I know, I know... We don't want to rush you. But you've built up some serious anticipation in the forum! I'm about to try again with a 2 X drive. (Sony BWU-100A) I was hoping to learn from you guys about the connection to the diode. I think that the Sony 2 X drive, has a diode with an isolated die. But , I don't even know what I am talking about really. Just experimenting...
