Re: O-like 400mw green - Review

Ok when mine is @ a nice temp. of 28.Celcius it burns trough the cd case in less then a second ( IR lens on ) but i don't care that much about burning ) just for the info.

Re: O-like 400mw green - Review

Mine can barely scratch a cd case, and has a tendency to not turn on every time and also flickered last night and today.

@weeba2kv
@DAST
- I'm glad your lasers are up to spec - good indicator that the batch as a whole is decent. Honestly burning is not an issue for me at all either, but only as an indicator of power.

I just hope that my issues are due to a bad contact in the tailcap. If that that doesn't fix the problem... well, i have a feeling i'll be sending this one back.

I'm waiting for the 200mw transformable from O-like, and it's shipping with the replacement tail cap for the torch as well as new lens for the 1.2W tactical. I'll post reviews after i get them... I pretty much covered the impressions on the 400mw torch though.

@weeba2kv

These batteries have a top voltage of 4.2V. At 3.0V or so they are close to discharged. I think you received one of those golden samples.

@DAST

That is far from >350 in my opinion. >250mw would be more correct. I'm so tempted to get mine measured!

Laser is supposed to be a minimum of 350mw. A peak of 330mw is better than what I have... I think... but even so, underpowered. Still $222 for 300mw laser isn't so bad.

My understanding of 18650 batteries is that the protection circuit should kick in if they drop to below 3v... discharging beyond a certain point will leave the battery completely useless.

I really really want to measure my lasers too :(

Re: O-like 400mw green - Review

why doesnt olike improve the heatsink of this laser ... i mean look at the spartan you can turn it on for over 4 minutes

This for only 1 minute :tsk:

What's interesting is that in terms of size, they really aren't that different. The laser is warm after 100 seconds though.

Consider the price difference though. 532nm 200mw Spartan is $549.99. What's puzzling to me is that the 447nm 1w Spartan is safe to run for 3+ minutes. Considering it's so much more powerful I would expect it to heat up faster.

The 1.2W from O-like warms up after 2 minutes, and has a huge heat sink. I'll post some pics in my review.

the 1w Spartan is so cheap because it is made cheap XD
No just kidding, the diode is brandnew and it is easier to make it than green diodes

Re: O-like 400mw green - Review

Well, main reason I wanted to have a powerful green laser is that green is supposed to be perceived MUCH better than red, violet or blue.

Unfortunately right now, my 1.2W O-Like laser produces a much more visible beam than say the 400mw green. I'm really kind of paranoid though, because I suspect both are under powered. I'm hoping cheaper lpm's become available so that I can test.

Green diode? :crackup:
You mean 808nm (IR) pump diode.
The reason the green laser heats up more than the 445nm lasers is because the pump (808nm - IR) diode is running at a higher current (2A) than the 445nm laser diode in the spartan (1A) and generates more heat.
If the pump diode is pushing 2W, and the laser output is 400mW, this gives an efficiency of 20% for the Nd:YVO4 and KTP crystals. :beer:

Re: O-like 400mw green - Review

Like Ricochet says : I think you received one of those golden samples.

Mine is really over spec after about 10 15 seconds it's so damn bright my 1 - 1.2 watt 445 is nothing compared to this green o-like 400
and my cheap 200mW DX( ~120 ~140mW ) is just a JOKE compaired with this new scigarette lighter lol

Re: O-like 400mw green - Review

Why must there be such a huge difference from the same (supposedly) verified product?

^ Yours is top notch, mine is mediocre and InfinitusEquitas'as is super weak.. I decided to order from o-like since everyone was so impressed by their quality control. I'm not.

Re: O-like 400mw green - Review

Maybe a stupid Q...
But how long does the 18650 need to charge?

I really don't know why there's this huge difference :( :( :( it for sure would make me almost angry - venomously
And with a almost empty batt ( 3.3 V ) it mode hops into TEM01

Re: O-like 400mw green - Review

I'm bottling up my anger until I receive current order and replacement parts. Would be wonderful if problems didn't exist to begin with, but at this point I just hope for a good resolution.

Slow shipping speed also pisses me off though, paid for express, ordered on the 31st, and no tracking yet... not gonna be shipped until tomorrow at the earliest. Would have been nice to tell me that when I ordered.

The inconsistency with chinese products in general is insane, but with lasers, it just bugs me. It's kind of cultural actually, some concepts just seem to be missing from their education.

So far o-like is 1/3 for me. If they go to 1/4 I'm gonna be very angry:yabbmad:. I'm hoping that tail cap will fix my problem, but I doubt it.

Charge time varies depending on the charger you're using, my experience has been 2-4 hours. I would advise against leaving the charger unattended though.

Re: O-like 400mw green - Review

Tail cap , you can use a short wire to connect the case to the + of the batt.

Btw my charger is a model :YL-103A and it's not charging my batt , after 30 min i still measure 3.5 Volt , i put the batt in the pointer less then 1 min and it's dim.

The batt doesn't get warm or rises in temp.

Output: 1 1.2V/350mA
2 3.7V/300mA

Edit: while the batt is charging i measure on the + and - Exact 3.5 volt ( shouldn't that be atleast 3.7 V)

Re: O-like 400mw green - Review

Weird... do you have another battery to compare? Actually I never even used the one that came with the laser, using tenergy batteries instead.

I might try that with the tailcap... I thought about it, but didn't want to in case it didn't do anything to help :( avoidance rearing it's ugly head I suppose.

Re: O-like 400mw green - Review

Batt charger with no batt i measure 9 volt.
Right now i am charging a other 18650 batt also it's @ 3.5 V while charging, that's just weird IMO.

HA!!! i just measure on the CR2 3V batt charger 3.5 Volts

So wth... wrong batt charger ?
