Re: O-like 400mw green - Review

I think removing the waterproof lens will not make much of a difference.

@Ricochet 6 big steps aka 6 meters and mine still smokes a black Cambridge SoundWorks speaker and i haven't checked if it was focused pefect

cause somehow i find it a lilbit difficult to focus to infinity.

I got e-mail back 16-march ( restock of good green laser torches‏) so i said yes "yes i would like to continue my order"
mine got shifted 17-march, i got it on 5-april yesterday.

Re: O-like 400mw green - Review

Hmm, I ordered mine yesterday and I can't wait for it to arrive!

Re: O-like 400mw green - Review

lol why do you have 2 x 1.4 W445 + 1 x1.3 and a 1.2 445 haha

Re: O-like 400mw green - Review

I like 445's :)

Next on my list is my first red! lol

Re: O-like 400mw green - Review

Well this green o-like will for sure impress you a lot ( if you get a over spec 1 )

cheers!

Re: O-like 400mw green - Review

Even though mine never burned a thing, well I mean very little... I did find it VERY hard to focus.

Then yours is definitely outputting quite a bit more than mine. You should get it measured, perhaps it's one of those 600mw outsiders.. :)

Personally I focus mine by aiming it at a white wall or similar at ~20M away and looking at the dot thru a digital camera, trying to make it as small as possible. Then I put a small mark on the host to know where the best "infinity" focus is.

Actually, a complete turn counter clock wise from that gives you a perfect close up burning focus, at around lasers length from aperture.

I've noticed that the dot isn't perfectly circular. It's much more messy than on this picture.. Not sure if that influences any thing..

Re: O-like 400mw green - Review

For all i know is that your dot looks good and as far i know dpss lasers never really have a round dot ( not sure if that's true) because the crystal is a cube square shape.

Eudaimonium correct me if i am wrong :)

Re: O-like 400mw green - Review

Actually, most dpss lasers produce a pretty decent round beam geometry. if the laser has good beam forming optics for the pump diode, it will produce a final beam geometry pretty close if not exactly like the pump beam. i find the beam geometry of the laser we are talking about here to be the worse of all my dpss lasers. later tonight i will post pics of all the lasers i have showing the various beam geometries. i also find this OL laser we are talking about to be very unstable in terms of mode hopping and other artifacts. but the raw power is good.

i have a 473nm labby that produces a beam geometry almost as good as my argon. its pretty stunning.

Re: O-like 400mw green - Review

The more I read about this laser the more I get the sense that it's all over the place in terms of output, and quality :undecided:

Re: O-like 400mw green - Review

I agree plexus about the beam geometry it's horrible lol and unfocused it looks like a living blob of green alien mass.
Focused to a tiny spot it looks super nice

Re: O-like 400mw green - Review

Its going to be a trade off between power, size, quality and price. i think this laser is a pretty good balance of these. its cheap for 400mw ($0.50/mw which is about half what is typical), power (thats almost half a watt of dpss 532), quality (the host and build is pretty good, the focus mechanism is pretty neat and works well, its waterproof, the beam quality is so-so) and size (its small so no major heatsinking to help make the beam quality better and more stable).

buts its not what i would call a high quality laser. however for the price overall its quite an incredible deal, IMHO.
