574nm 36 mW Yellow Laser

Since some are seeing multiple lines and others are having issues with not enough power it seems QC on some of these leaves a lot to be desired. Mine at threshold has a nice Gaussian beam and stays that way all the way up to 36 mW. I guess I got lucky. I have not tried to drive it with a power supply as I didn't want to possibly destroy my pump diode, but it seems I will have to try to see if I can get mine up to 1750 mA without damage.

Even tho we got these very cheaply-- 'extras' like Paul's two driver heatsinks and any other ideas to prolong life (like much better drivers etc)--AND keeping SOME kind of records of power and losses etc and a rough idea as to the hours each of us are putting on these is very important IMO.

Am I correct on these being only TTL when/as delivered?
-- analog would be nice for use in PJs for true full color.

please post any useable drivers-both for lab as well as portable use.
Whats your opinions on using 3 or 4 pcs 18650 to power a port-a-labby.

Hi, len. I suspect if the driver is replaced you can have TTL or analog modulation as you like. The fan is just a 12 volt DC fan, so as long as you keep it running my head doesn't even get warm after 10 minutes of use. I will likely have the driver that came with the head and another driver as soon as I can figure out what current I want it to run at maximum. From what Chris has said, I will likely keep mine to no more than 1750 mA,

I think that after allowing this info to sufficiently process, I'm gonna order one of these. Does anyone have any idea what it would take or how long it may be before this wl is available in a handheld?

Also- after almost 11 years as a member, I finally have 1000 posts!:san:

Congrats on the 1000 posts--PM cOldshadow the owner of LPF and ask to be put on the whitelist for the Veterans sub-forum access .

I doubt they will ever be offered as hand helds---the manufacturer that makes them does not make any hand held lasers at all.
Unless you make one yourself or have someone else make one for you it is probably not going to happen----no real demand exists for low cost 25mW 575nm hand helds

Nexgen made one out of one of these units see post #174 in this thread : https://laserpointerforums.com/f52/565nm-laserlandaustralia-102826-11.html

Nice to see you posting again, and a big congratulations on your 1000 posts!

Yes, congrats on your 1000th post. Will it be another 10+ years to see the 2000th? Hope not. :D

Honestly?

Probably LOL

The community now is an entirely different thing than it was when I was active ten years ago. Back when I made most of my posts, the forum wasn't vBulletin yet, hobbyist power meters flat didn't exist, and 60mW from anything was impressive. Check out the link attached to my sig pic for an idea what that was like.

That's the mindset I still have. I like pretty colors from low powered lasers that I can use more or less safely on my vast acreage to see beamshots in my swamp fog at night. I love this forum and still read fairly regularly, I just don't feel as though I have much to offer the group anymore. I stopped posting about the time that review threads became "worthless" without multimeter readings and LPM outputs.

I'm the car guy who enjoys driving, but doesn't really care to discuss the lift on my cams. I jsut want it to work lol

And don't get me wrong: I am in no way disparaging the community. I very much enjoy it, I just know that I'm way out of me league here. That's a good thing, it's why I still read. I can learn!

Yes, I remember when direct diode lasers were low power and high power DPSSls were very expensive. I see from you signature that you like to collect yellow lasers. These 575nm and 565nm ones might be something you would be interested in. +Rep to give you nudge to post more frequently.

The way I see it with these new crystals, unless there is a problem with their being used at high power, these will become common from hundreds of milliwatts to a watt or more and we will begin to see a lot of them in pointers.

i understand your feeling and i have that also sometimes because im the guy that mostly see the "light-beamshots" on laser builds and i mostly use cheaper parts for my hosts and builds while i see alot of posts with very expensive machined hosts which i can't afford.im just happy if a laser works as intented no matter how it look like ;)

Think of the pump power needed to get 36 mW. You won't see a 1 watt in a pointer. I doubt you will see 250 mW in one.
