It was a Friday night, and I had gotten back to my apartment earlier than expected. I had a few beers in me, so I had a little extra courage to grab one of my 476nm Nichia engineering sample diodes and get to building. :D

I started by ripping apart my 520nm MiniSabre V2, and rebuilt the 520nm diode into a chrome Leadlight pen host.

(Original 520nm MiniSabre build: http://laserpointerforums.com/f45/520nm-green-laser-diode-handheld-build-now-video-82444.html )

I grounded myself with this method:

I pressed the Nichia diode into an AixiZ module, soldered on a flexdrive, and cranked up the current till it hit 30mW. Not the safest method, but it worked! This little laser has been kicking for a couple months now...I just haven't had the time to post pics until now.

The completed laser w/ AixiZ acrylic lens:

This laser was actually on the front page of my local newspaper. You can see it pointing into the prism in the corner.

There will be no video for this one, but do expect a new video on my channel of something else shortly!

That's it for this thread, now I need to stop procrastinating and get to cramming for my finals :D

Very nice. Didn't know diodes could put out multiple wavelengths at once.

Love the color of "aqua" direct diodes. Its ever so slightly different than the 473 nm DPSS lasers.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO You beat me to cyan in a handheld. I have been trying to make portable 488nm. But I never have had time to complete it :( anyway awesome work. +1 for you.

Hopfully I can still be the first with 488nm.

The third picture down is incredible. Like a beam of ice-I hate you for having these! (I keed-I don' hate ya).

Beautiful!

Looks like a very interesting/unique wavelength. Keep it up styropyro

+Rep to ya.

Anything around 480nm is an interesting wavelength!

I'll let you know just how interesting it is Monday ;)

I hope you enjoy it! I know I did, the color is perfect. I wish there were more of these available to us.

Now I have to decide what to do with the last diode. I'll probably end up doing another minisabre build unless I see another host that I want to try out. Unique diodes deserve good hosts :D

May I recommend a redshifted version so that it's a singleline 480? I'm gonna eventually have that done on this diode.

Do a solid silver host and heatsink, with engraving and inlayed aquamarine gemstones. that'd be fitting, not to mention have better heatsinking than any other pure metal element, if I'm not mistaken.

I love what you're doing with the v2 series, congrats on another exotic handheld!
