I know y'all can't wait, neither can i. However, i am completelly broke at the moment..
It drained me finantially to push through all the failures, and find good lenses.

So right now, i am working on the funding, so that i can afford some lenses too, when the GB starts. I DON'T want to be the only one without when this goes through!

In the meanwhile, i'm:
- Working on the lens nut design
- Spreading the GB to other forums to hopefully bring the cost down for all of us (help please)
- Testing (=playing with ::)) the lenses, to get a feel for how they work (focusing, etc), so i can tell you all what you'll get..

In any case, the lenses work! There is no more guesswork involved. They actually work, and they work great! I only ever use the glass in my 6x, as well as in my open can, which jumped from 265 to 312mW! (approximatelly, could be more, didn't do precise measurements with temp equalisation)

I'm sorry that you now have to wait for me to get the money together, but if i stil had what i lost on the 6 bad lens models (36 lenses total before the three good ones), i could easily aford them now...

So just a little bit, please.. It will all be good, now that the lenses work! That was the HARD part!

Re: 405nm AR glass lenses - fit AixiZ  FEELER

BTW, last week i tried to post on CPF Marketplace. I started a thread, but it was nowhere to be seen. I even tried searching for my own username, but couldn't find it.

So i posted it again, and again, it was nowhere to be found. Then i posted "Test", nothing.. Then i tried to contact the moderator through PM, but realized i was banned as a spammer! Permanently! :o

I have no idea what happened. Maybe all three threads appeared there, but i couldn't see them.

I don't know if it makes any sense to try with CPF anyway. Doesn't look like there's too much activity with lasers...

But someone mentioned PL and to PM them, i did, but no reply yet. I don't know what PL is. If anyone has other ideas, help would be appreciated!

You can all help to spread the word, when talking about lasers, and point interested people in the right direction. I am hoping that with enough orders we can get the price of the mounted lenses in lens nuts close to the originally intended price....

The basic increase for blu rays is >20%, depending on diode output and wavelength. More with PHRs...

Also, keep in mind, that things have changed from the original idea. Back then, the prices were low enough, that the lenses could become self supporting - a continuously available thing. Now it will have to be a GB at manufacturing cost in a large volume, in order to get a reasonable price. So after this GB, they will be unavailable for an indeterminate amount of time! So decide how many you want now, cos i can't say when or if they will be available again.......

I will buy as many as i can at that point.. But i'm not likelly to sell them for the above mentioned reason.

Re: 405nm AR glass lenses - fit AixiZ  FEELER

Ah, right..

Thanks for reminding me! :)

BTW, did you check CPF? Did i actually double post there due to a silly forum error?
I wrote the moderator but got no reply..

Re: 405nm AR glass lenses - fit AixiZ  FEELER

CPF uses some other site for B/S/T I forget where it is. Almost all "offers for sale" are treated as SPAM.

Peace,
dave

Sorry, i should have said "CPF Marketplace".. That's where i tried to post.. That's where i saw Kenom's thread, and i read the rules first..

There was some kind of forum error, and i fear i triple posted... :-[

Hey IgorT, did you ever find that link for the A/R coated acrylics for reds? Or anyone?

Hello IgorT, did you look at surplus shed? They do have a large choice of precision optics for quite cheap:

What focal length are you looking for?

I already found what i was looking for.. ;) I'm not looking anymore. We just need to finish the lens nut design with DarkHorse, and then start the GB.

The only thing i'm looking for at the moment is money, so that i can buy many lenses myself...  ;D

Most of the lenses at Surplus Shed are spherical lenses. For example the ones that say PCX or BCX. Those are precision machined plano-convex or bi-convex spherical lenses. I have such lenses and they are cheaper than aspherics, but no good.

They have some aspheres, but nothing directly suitable, and the coatings are off. Also nothing mounted in the kind of lens nuts we need.

The one that is actually made for blu rays costs $80. My aspherics come from the manufacturer directly, and be much cheaper than that. Basically, we are getting direct replacements for certain ThorLabs lenses at a fraction of the cost.. ;)

But that is a good collection for someone who needs a single lens for a special project or something... Thanks for the link!

Yeah, this is it: http://cgi.ebay.com/Plastic-Collima..._Components_Supplies_ET?hash=item350117036998

It's the best cheap lens for reds. But don't try to use it in an overdriven blu ray, cos you'll kill it on the spot! It cuts the power in half, by increasing reflections with the 650nm coating.

This gives you a higher power than regular acrylics or the triple element glass lenses, but not as high as lens #2 from the good aspheres...

Unfortunatelly shipping costs more than the lens, and if you buy 10, it doesn't change.. And once you get them dirty, you basically need a new one. That's the drawback with plastic lenses..

GB, when applicable

For the record, put me down for one 405nm and one multi-coated lens. If there's an option to have them mounted in their threaded inserts for a little extra, I'd like them both that way.

I'd be using one of these on a Kryton Groove at 405nm and, in theory, on a Kryton Beast at 635nm. (or on another Groove at ~660nm, depending on what the future holds)

Thanks!

Thanks for the link. Got some to check out- maybe do some power comparisons as well, once I get my meter.
Can't wait to get these lenses as well. What % boost do they offer for reds?

Re: 405nm AR glass lenses - fit AixiZ  FEELER

Platinum: The new lenses will be mounted in custom metal lens nuts. There is no other way to do it, because of the short focal length. The plastic lens nuts i bought are too short, and go into the module completelly, leaving nothing outside to focus. And that's when reversed, which allows the lens even closer to the diode.

Another problem is, that mounting by hand is a horribly messy work. I can barelly get the lenses clean after doing so. If they are mounted by the manufacturer, they will come to us clean.

DarkHorse and i are working on the lens nut model. It will be based on the all-threaded triple element AixiZ glass lens nut, with some modifications..

Also, all of them will be broadband coated (AR 400-700nm), because it's cheaper this way, and the broadband coating is very good at both 405 and 660nm.

Treb: I did some simple tests for now. When the power after regular acrylic lens is 265mW, the power after the AR coated acrylic was ~292mW and the power after the glass lens was 312-315mW. Not sure exactly, because temperature may have played a role. I didn't bring the laser to the exact same temperature before each measurement.

I think it's around 17-19%, but i need to repeat the measurements with temperature equalisation and preferably with the entire effective diameter exposed. At the moment, the exposed diameter of the lens is 5mm, while it's actual diameter is 6.35mm. The metal lens nuts will have a very small edge, exposing the entire effective diameter to the diode, so there could be a bit more for both reds and blu rays.

Otherwise, once i'm done with my current work, i will post a full testing report of the two lenses, with beam shots, photos of the spot (with different diodes), comparisons to other lenses (power/spot on all diodes), and my experiences from using the two in the last couple of weeks.

That will tell you all what to expect from the lenses, and then we can start collecting orders.

How's the lens nut design progressing? It's been some time already. Are there already communications with a potential company or is DarkHorse going to make them all himself?

My lens manufacturer has all they need, to make their own lens nuts. That's what they do - they supply lenses mounted, if that's what you want...

It is best to have it all done in one place. Even more, because they are used to handling lenses, they have machines to do it without damaging the lenses, and if they damage a lens it's their problem, not ours.

DH said he can make the model this week. He will make a CAD model, which i'll send to the manufacturer, along with an AixiZ lens nut and module. That way they can make it all fit together.. :)
