4 diode laser?

Hey all,

I have just recently watched https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXEGlfKmspc and was very impressed seeing a triple diode laser that is handheld(sort of) and was wondering if anyone on these forums have gotten a handheld laser(not a labby) past the 10w marker? This question is mainly just to see what people would or have done to make one. Only thing that I can imagine here is the size of the thing and the main. heatsink:drool:

Preferably a 445 build.
 





I'm sure you can hire ricktrent to do something. He seems to be pretty good at frankensteining projects... especially considering 5W max diodes are out... 10W should be passable with a 3-diode host.
 
At this point the only limiting factor is what you define as handheld.

I could easily make a 40W FAP portable, but it would be pretty big.
 
Hmmm, you guys know me, I am still dreaming of that ghostbuster backpack laser packin 40+ watts ! I aint afraid of no ghost! The government of Canada, mostly health Canada, now that's a different story! LOL
 
I would go with ARG. RT does not use the waveplate things and then you get the plus sign beam

That's also another thing to consider.

When you stack beams you get either worse divergence or worse beam size. Then again, most people only have eyes for the power rating of a laser. :rolleyes:

Maybe most people you see in threads such as these haha. But there are plenty who appreciate a fine beam that isn't trying to dual-spec Laser and Flashlight if you get my drift.

The most power I have seen is this 10 W build outta Mother Russia....OR....perhaps Rick Trent has surpassed this ?????

This unit has Eight (8) 9mm 445 diodes, 4 separate LD's... knife-edged, then ....a 4 + 4 combined with a PBS...Bob's your Uncle !!
He used no corrective optics....but then....the 9mm have a decent divergence without corrective optics.

Now..with the advent of the new 4~5 W NDB7A75 445's.....you MAY achieve 8 to 9W....with two of the NDB7A75 LD's...with a waveplate and PBS combo....BUT....it WILL need some adaptive correction optics to lower the divergence and reach acceptable energy density!! I would go with a set of Cylinderical lenses to get a reasonable tight beam out the front door !! See this beauty for inspiration !!!!!!!!!

Use two 7A75's....and add a waveplate and some Cylindericals for correction!!! Yep !! Maybe 9W....in a fairly compact build....not small....but not HUGE !!!
Doable !!!!


BUT....MORE is possible !!! I speculate about 30W with the current LD's available to us....and reasonable energy density thru corrective optics !!

Lol. Power isn't too much of a focus it is just what seems to always make the papers. I really like a nice solid beam with low divergence which most higher powers can't do. Guess I just wanted to see if anyone had surpassed a milestone that hasn't or is extremely difficult to accomplish. ;)

Please explain this statement, to me it sounds like your setting us up for a custom made dual host.

I you can verify then I would go further into my guessing on who, what, where:whistle:
 
Too bad Soraa (formlerly Kaii) didn't continue with their laser development- in 2011 they already had 4W InGaN (445) diodes, and 750mW single mode versions. Woulda been schweet, eh?

Upaa if you want more info on beam combining and correction, I suggest taking a look at the "other" forums. Being projector people, the beams they use cant be big chunky squares like out handhelds.

I remember reading about them last year and was disapointed that they discontinued those nice greenies! For the forum, are you referring to candlepower?
