even if there was a way, it would be so inefficient it wouldn't be worth trying I think.. I didn't realize the pbs would polarize it. I been playing with a 445 I got on lazerpoint.com after waiting 3 months for them to ship it. it's quite powerful I think they binned it because it burns extremely easy when I put 1000ma to it.. I need to get a host done one of these days. I am using an Ebay 12v driver box with the TTL and fan output, it's pretty slick.

Its not that PBS would polarize it. Laser beam is polarized by default. But PBS will require 2 input beams to be of opposite polarization, and the polarization is kept after the mix. So if you use this setup, half of the photons after PBS will have vertical polarization, and half will have horizontal polarization .. just because they had such polarization before entering PBS.

Anyone hear from JLSE lately? I heard he was injured and heard he had a flood... He had a mitts500 I sent him for repair.. havent got a mail back in 6mos...

I heard something similar as well. I think he's having a rough time ATM. I wouldn't count on getting your mits back any time soon.

I'm ok with that... It was dead to me the way it was... last message I got was a positive one though So I had my hopes up... I do Hope he is OK.. Nothing else matters when our health fails..

Did you try to burn through that wood block before selling it? I'd love to see that :P

Also do you think the beam's brighter than a WL Krypton? Not that I endorse them or anything, just curious.

The beam is highly brighter (visible also in daylight) than an Optotronics (532 nm) RPL-450 (over 600 mW) so I suppose also in respect to a WL krypton :D

Wow, and I was told many times no handheld could be visible in daylight. Damn, now I need one ;)

Edit: while you're at it try to melt a coin. Always wanted to do that!

Yup, it's faintly visible in the sunlight. :D Looking at the beam in the day is the equivalent of looking at a 5mW 532nm pen at night.

I don't think it can melt a coin since most of the light would reflect off the surface.

It's most likely brighter than a Krypton. It didn't even being to compare to my 300mW 532nm handheld, and from what Arayan says it's much brighter than a >600mW 532nm pointer, and the krytons usually average out to 750mW.

I didn't try to burn all the way through the block of wood, but it probably wood not (forgive the pun) because the block was really thick. I was trying my best not to light everything it pointed at on fire, but that didn't turn out to well for me :p

Damn!

How about a small copper coin? Should absorb blue better. I managed to heat one up to the point of being untouchable with just 1.1W.


Did you try to hit some clouds? I can't with my 445nm but the 638nm does it on the lower ones.. looks like the batman sign :P
