How many of you believe this crap, and if so/not, why?

I don't, if it's not obvious enough for you.

My roommate has been driving me nuts about that idiocy recently! She swears up and down that there will be no world left after that date, but I don't believe that. The end of the world has been predicted many, many times and everytime the followers of that prediction have been proven wrong. I'm not worrying about it.

the human race will cause its own demise b/c of basic stupidity. look at global warming....caused by humans. look at polluted cities like LA, CA....caused by humans... nostradamus predicted the end of the world hundreds of years ago and hes the only 1 that even came close as far as predicting the future.

Some of those things were just wrong. I don't think any other culture has pegged 2012 as "it" besides the Mayans.

And the thing with the sun's activity? The sun is in its LEAST active state in recorded history. For as long as we've been watching the sun, hundreds of years, August 2008 was the first month ever witnessed to not have a single recorded sunspot.

They just picked lots of old cultures and supposed psychics and threw them together to make a video, not actually noting any religious beliefs except the Mayans. So it doesn't even meet the requirement of actually depicting those predictions. And the predictions? Meh.

That vid was most likely made by some hippy thats had wayyyyyy to much of the good stuff! ;D

Total BS.

I read that in 2012 Planet X is supposed to come in contact with the earth, and as I speak it's heading the direction of earth.
lol

That caption for that face palm is just terrible. F in sentence structure for the guy who wrote that.

Better said as:

FACE PALM
Because words cannot express how dumb that was.

The human race isn't going to be wiped out. The Human race will wipe itself out and we'll have nobody to blame but ourselves. I personally want some sort of apocalypse involving zombies to happen, that'd be awesome. Us in Australia wouldn't have much in the way of weapons :/ I'd have to roll down to Roseville gun shop in my post apocalyptic Dodge Charger or similar and loot the place.

As for the video, if it's one thing humans are good at it's being paranoid.

All those big things they were saying, hurricanes and what not. They already happen :P I don't see the world blowing up. And everything else is just what people say.

The stupid thing is that their assuming these people are right, old cultures and people and stuff. Why would they be right? Where does it say that because lots of people agree, it's right? Human arrogance once again.

If lots of sane educated people come to the same conclusion chances are they're right. Like all the scientists that agreed the Large Hadron Collider is safe.

That video was a lot of crap. Some of us may or may not know that the Earth goes through cycles where there are more volcanic eruptions, tsunamis and earthquakes and where the Earth heats up, it always has, and it always will. Mars even has global warmin. I'm not saying we aren't helping it in some way, but I doubt we are fully to blame for global warming.

Now to be perfectly honest, I don't think the world will end in 2012, I think there may be a war around that time, maybe even a world war, but I seriously doubt that it will bring about the end of the world.

If the world gets sucked into a black hole, no one actually knows what could happen, the black hole could create a wormhole, which would send the whole planet to another dimension, or another place or another time, nobody knows !

LOL, what a bunch of garbage. Some people are so disenfranchised and so ignorant they need to connect with some ancient cultural beliefs to give them some direction in life, even if it calls for the doom of mankind. This kind of fanaticism only rears it's head in the developed world possibly due to a need of people, not connected with the progress of humans, to feel a part of human development or perhaps they are simply overwhelmed by life in developed countries.

Certainly there are threats to the existence of humans but there have always been threats to the existence of humans. This is nothing new. The ancients attributed these threats to gods, but the modern world see the threats at face value. You will always find what you are looking for. It's human nature. Someone who believes an earthquake will destroy the world will find earthquakes all the time all over the world and attribute that as proof of their prediction. When rigorous mathematics is applied to the proof we always find there is nothing abnormal. People in the US are focused on terrorism at the moment and see it in every crack and crevice but there is nothing new about terrorism. The tools have changed over the years but terrorism has been around since the dawn of man. A great example is the Philippine insurrection between 1902 and 1907. The Filipinos used terrorism as a tool to intimidate the US Army.

Ignorance provides a means to skew a sample and lead people down a myopic path. It is the nature of humans to have agendas. Selective use of data shores up many prediction claims. Nostradamus is a classic example. Humans with a need to believe he had the ability to see the future take events and make them fit his predictions. But you never hear about the predictions he made that were completely wrong.

What a sad state of affairs.
