200mW DIY green labby with 1000mW pump






The crystals get hot, and fast! This is why I went with this setup, they are held in place with a nice heatsink. The one that I threw together has some mode switching issues, but it only seems to be when the voltage is too low or pre warm up. Im trying to find some 2000mW 9mm diodes for the same type of setup. I will eventually try some c-mount, but FAC's keep burning up the crystals >:( I have no luck when using any type of optic between the medium and the pump.
 
Really appreciate the good photography. That first photo makes it look like some monster machine from hell.
 
I concur, nice macro photography. The image of the diode flush with the brass heatsink is really quite beautiful. You must be using a nice DSLR. (Nice laser too!) [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

The labby for 64 or 59 bucks with the big driver board.
 
Well I built up 3 using this housing. One was a screw up and only gives 50mW from a damaged 1watt pump, the second gives 150, and the 3rd hits 300mW. The 3rd is the one I machined and straitend up. Seems the extra effort was well worth it. My lasercheck registers 274mW at a distance of 20ft. Im expecting a little more power when I finish correcting the optics and the alignment. Originally I was getting around 250mW at most, but then noticed the beam exiting from the top of the lens, I tried to correct it and got it slightly closer to center. This alone allowed the peak of 304mW, so today I am singing the tune of 350mW ::) I hope.

The unit seems to perform much better when it gets good and warm, and stays steady at 274mW. If you place your hand in the beam at 10-15 feet, it feels like im driving a nail in it!. Im addicted to using the palm of my hand instead of the lasercheck :-/

I never even considered that... But it could be converted into a nice portable!

Do they consistently put out 100mW? What about the bigger more expensive model 50/100mW? Anyone tested that?
 
I havent tried it, but by the looks of the pics on dx, its a true 100 based internals with a heatsink like the 70mW red. The sink is longer and the diode looks to be of the 9mm variety. Seeing as the true 100 and the 200mW use this arrangement and suffer from heat issues, the heatsink may be a valid solution. I would imagine they push 100mW steady, but who knows.
 
Finally I figured its time for some balloon popping fun. At 278mW here is my DIY labby takin out some bad guy balloons :o
