Still though - it takes an 1100W microwave to heat up a cup of coffee. Do you really think that a 1W laser could do it?
Assuming 100% absorption of light and no loss of heat, it would take nearly 22 hours for a 1W laser to heat up a cup of water to boiling from 20ºC. When compared to any other heating device, 1W is a very tiny amount of power. It would be much easier to heat up water with an incandescent light bulb.

Very true ^^^ The only place that lasers excel is energy density. They can concentrate their energy on a VERY small area which can make the point extremely hot as for heating large volumes they are quite weak.
