16x build Mark of the Beast *pics*

Awesome build and great photos! I like the way you mounted the driver. :)

Thanks Garoq ! Appreciate it ! Maybe you should stock a driver like it. Hint, hint :) I'm thankful for what you do have & your great service ! Thank you !

Driver came in today. I've already got it harvest and pressed in a module.

Just need a driver and somewhere to put it....

Cool ! Can't wait to see your build ! That's where I'm at with my next 2 builds. Waiting on parts. Good luck with your build ! Post pics ! :)

Thanks Jstrawn ! Appreciate it ! I'm not sure about the duty cycle. It's "decent" though. The extended copper heats ink and the stainless host seems to be a good combination.
Looks like I don't have to work this weekend. I'll pick up an IR thermometer and report back with temp/time readings. I need one anyway.
Thanks for the question.

great build! and I dig how you provided a storyline of photos... thanks for that!

congrats!!

Great work Dave, I've been also wanting the newer 405's since they were tested to hit more than 1W+ , never thought i'll need another one after the 12x It's such a beautiful color +rep Thanks for sharing the build with us.

Thanks KapHn8d ! I appreciate it ! Glad you liked the storyline of the build. I failed every English class I have ever taken. Except creative writing, I made an "A".

Thanks sinner ! I appreciate it Sir ! I'm about to get all the pieces together for the beautiful host I got from you. Diode is at the post office waiting for me to pick it up. Drives are in the works, hopefully next week. Batteries are on there way !
Soon I get to take more pics !

OK Jstrawn, I got an IR temp gun. First thing I did was check the readings. Thermometer on the wall is reading 74°F. Temp gun reads 73.5°F. Then I got a reading off my tongue of 98°. Close enough for me. I put a small piece of black tape on the host right where the flange of the heat sink meets the host and that's also about where the diode is in the heat sink. I did that to make sure I got a reading in the same spot.
Room temp was 74°. Host temp started at 76°. After running for 5min. host temp was 93°.

I don't know much about this stuff but that seems pretty decent to me. I used the same type host only with an extended tapered heat sink for a 2.7w 445nm build I did for someone and it's run time wasn't bad. Not near as good as this one though. Hope that helps. Build one and tell me if I was right. :)

Thanks cheech226 ! Appreciate it ! Funny you should say that, yes it will. Burnt hair really stinks too. :)

Hey thanks for checking out the temp changes! I have been looking at these 16x Diodes and really want one. The reason I asked is to help me decide on which host to put it in. I like long run times, but also prefer smaller hosts, so I was curious about the heat efficiency of this diode. I also have had great success with survival Lasers, and I might go the same way as you on this one. :) Thanks!

I just bought one of these diodes, figuring out host options now. can't wait for 1W of 405, something I've been hankering for for a while

No problem Jstrawn. Hope the info helps. Be looking forward to your build. Best of luck and post pics !

That's cool Shakenawake ! Glad you got your diode ! I wonder if any of these Blu-ray burners actually get used for their intended purpose. :)
Can't wait to see what you do with it !
I wouldn't mind building another one myself, and trying for 1.3w. :)

Ditto from me Dave on all the good comments made by others above!!

+4 (maybe 5)

the pics are super-- belongs in the tutorial section or a link there to this thread at the very least.

Thanks hakzaw1, I appreciate it Sir ! I enjoy taking pics too, two hobbies come together :)
Don't tell me I should have posted this in another area, sometimes I have a hard time figuring where I should post something :) Seems like it could go in two or three places. I just pick one I think applies :)
I'm new to this stuff, my hope is by posting my builds someone who has been thinking about their first build sees mine, gets the confidence, says "Look this idiot built one, I can too." And they successfully build it and it works. I find it a very rewarding hobby that I really enjoy.
Thanks again
Dave
