12x BR DIODES

I typically click it for about 10 seconds on just shining the sky, and then 5-10 seconds off. I've now checked the power at 885mW on the supply 3 different times, and those are 20-25 second on periods to watch stability for a short time AFTER it warms the sensor to max reading. It is very stable after this point, like 1-3 mW variance stable. It is only fairly warm after 25 seconds of being on. These Flexdrives have been known to do funny things lately, but it's acting fine now while powering this load for short periods. If I leave the unit on for more than 25 seconds, the output steadily falls about 35mW, and then quickly reverses and climbs again back to 880mW+. I let this happen once and power off, and cool. When the sink is completely cool again, the stability starts again and remains at <1% stability range.

I'm blown away by this. :tinfoil:

Everyone is blow away by this. Thanks for pushing the envelope for all of our benefit.

Just ran another 45 seconds on the LBI meter. Still hitting 884mW on yesterday's charged battery.

I don't mean to overdue it with updates everytime I press the button on this thing, but the power sure isn't dropping, and the diode sure isn't dead. ;)

Franko ----

I've been holding my breath too long here so I'll post what I have.

My second 12x BR diode from a BDR-205
Housing -- Aixiz clone from DX
Lens -- Jayrob 405-G-1
Driver -- Variable controled bench supply
LPM -- Scientech 365
Recorder -- Paper and pencil !!!;)

200 mA 5.3 V 303 mW
300 mA 5.6 V 455 mW
340 mA 5.7 V 507 mW
380 mA 5.8 V 566 mW
400 mA 5.8 V 590 mW
440 mA 5.8 V 648 mW
490 mA 5.9 V 708 mW

Thats insane exerd! if it hits 10 minutes....you should bump it up to 1W...

Hell, I'm nearly 9/10 of the way to 1 watt and things are just fine!

I'd rather sit where I'm at and feel somewhat comfortable. 1 Watt is just pushing it and that's probably the difference between 885mW and diode death. I am anxious to get another BDR, though. I think a 500mW pen build is next in line. Be ready Jayrob. :D

Well, normally I would say that it does not have much heatsinking in a pen...

But with the way you are pushing your diodes, I guess that's not too bad. (500mW's in a pen)

I thought about this fact already, and considered the caution I use for duty cycles when I play...

I'm going to continue listening to the devil figure on my shoulder who whispers to me at night. He seems to know what's best for my laser addictions. ;)

Franko --

I added two more points to my data. The Aixiz housing is getting hot at 600 mA.
I think I'll stop there.

HMike

The aiXiz is getting hot @ 600mW!?! Isn't it in a heat sink?

I know that these are not producing the heat that the reds did, but dayum!

Peace,
dave

DAve --

I have the Aixiz clamped in a small vise for additional heat sinking but daym, it was getting warm. Seems to me that anything over 400 mA needs a larger heat sink for any duty cycle. I just use the Aixiz for testing.

Wonder what could be done with TEC cooling thrown in the mix??

I would love to invest in a bad arse BR labbie.
