I am going to buy a laser and was wondering which color is best for burning. I do not want a uv or ir laser.

thanks

Yellow is best for burning.

Obviously, it's the colour of fire. Although I would add that if you can, you should shoot for 594nm yellow instead of 589nm yellow. Since fire is actually not completely yellow (it has hues of orange in it), the 594nm will be slightly better at burning because of the slightly redder tint.

True about the yellow and orange..but Blue happens to be the hottest out side of a white flame, personaly I'd say 10,000nm is best for burning except its outside the visible spectrum.

I think about 50Watt of 594nm would do, that or a few hundreds of Watts of pulsed ruby laser or co2 laser would do fine :D

I was hoping someone would point out that I'm trolling.

Seriously, though, yellow is NOT the best for burning. This question has been answered many times and I'm sure you could find the answer with a bit of searching.

Short answer: Blue.

is already over? I was having so much fun to read this thread :D :D

BTW: 405 nm (blu-ray) is very good for burning, but a lighter is better ;)

Burn baby burn...
I see new Youtube videos comming...with one eyed guys without safety goggles...0o

473nm!

If you want laser For Burning buy An 445nm.

@RA_pierce: Ive always thought that out of the common wavelengths 405nm would be the best burner per mW because light at 405nm would have more energy per photon than the longer wavelengths like 445 and 650. Do you say blue because blue handhelds now commonly exceed 1W while the 405's can't measure up in power?

I suppose. I mostly answered "blue" because it's the easiest answer. :P

This is nonsense. We measure lasers in mW .. which is generally the burning power. Red 200mW will burn perfectly same blue 200mW, at least black targets. The fact that blue photons have higher energy means just that blue laser will need less photons to achieve the same power. It also means blue laser will take more power to generate these photons.
