Re: New Fast Sled GB (inc. LPC-826)

not very useful if you aren't a PL member. I have been meaning to join PL, but have NOTHING i want from any of them, they are a bunch of @$$ holes over there, and I'm not one who deals with @$$ holes just for fun

I disagree with this generalized statement. Several of the nicest folks here are also members there. The graphs are done in 100ma steps so its impossible to determine the knee and plateau. It is reassuring as to the 826 being a bit stronger than the 815 though. Definately worth trying a couple out

Im really not sure what that has to do with what I said, I said, the graphs aren't useful if your not a PL member, BECAUSE you can NOT see them if your not a member.

And the ONLY nice/decent people on PL I have seen, ARE members here.

Re: New Fast Sled GB (inc. LPC-826)

PL isn't a bad place per se. They just don't have much place in their hearts for 'pointers'. And I can't really blame them. After all, more strict legislation involving lasers that is inevitable isn't due to people misusing medical, industrial, or laser projectors. It's due to to morons with pointers.

I'm a member of PL. And I haven't had a bit of problems with any of them, though I don't go there with 'But will it burn stuff?' posts either... Which is pretty much the norm for most people here.

If you have an interest in the 'serious' side of lasers, PL is the place to be. If your just an 'OMG IT BURNZ!' person, then you'd best stay away from PL.

Re: New Fast Sled GB (inc. LPC-826)

It strikes me that they're more about projectors and labbies, than pointers... I'm a member solely to jump in on the occasional GB that doesn't get posted here. I probably have 20 posts if that.

Having said that - more to your point - just go to bugmenot.com, grab a login, and use it for the purpose of DLing a pdf. That's what I do when a forum requires it - which is obnoxious as far as I'm concerned. If you want to lock content, then lock the damn content and don't leave the forum THREAD google-able for banner impressions, while locking the downloads- but that's an entirely different tangent.

For what its worth, I'd think a forum admin would rather you use a random login from bugmenot to login and download a file, than signup for a whole account, use it once, and then leave it forever in their DB...

@qumefox

one can only dream right? but i understand the reasoning behind red diodes not progressing, though i dont think anyone here 2 years ago would have thought that a 2W blue diode would find its way into a projector. maybe the people that makes that projector might come up with a newer model that replaces those red LEDs with stronger red diodes (im just daydreaming here no need to respond to that last statement :na:).

Re: New Fast Sled GB (inc. LPC-826)

with the best lens they tried, the 826 did 380-390mW @ 600mA

And i'll comment anyway :p For display use.. (DLP projectors) beam specs don't matter much. We got REALLY lucky that the beam specs on the 445's are as good as they are. They just as easily could have been as bad as.. say.. high power 635 diodes. With best case divergences well over 4 mRad.

Re: New Fast Sled GB (inc. LPC-826)

FWIW - Last night I got an LPC 815 up above 400mW without any brilliance required... just more power (600mA+). It was pressed in a module that I got crazy glue on the lens threads of - and I didn't think that I could get the LOC diode out without damaging it, so I decided to torture it.

That was a raw reading, without a lens, but still - I was able to get the diode to sustain 400mW+ (peaking somewhere around 430mW) for a while before I pulled down the power. No freaky TEC, and in fact the Aixiz wasn't even itself in a heatsink.... and for that matter, the back of the aixiz wasn't on either :)

I had planned to kill the diode, but when I saw that it hit 400mW comfortably, I decided to spare it's life - despite its permanent incarceration in a damaged housing ;)

It was an LPC 815 from Glenn's last GB.

Re: New Fast Sled GB (inc. LPC-826)

I have an LPC-815 that's been doing 330mW after lens for around 20 hours or so (estimated) on the build.

may i ask what lens you were using? i hope it isnt the 650-g1 because I would want that power but not wanna spend 2X the cost of the laser on just a lens.

That's with a single element acrylic. But not an aixiz one. The ones I get are AR coated for red. I'll have them up for sale soon but I think they can be had off ebay currently as well. I get them from the same people I get my 405/445 lenses from.

Do we have a straight-forward simple PIV curve for the 826 yet ?

whoa!! 330mW from just an acrylic? well then again... i was lucky enough to recieve some AR coated acrylics from the red laser modules i ordered from DX, i linked it up a few posts back, but for 3.40 its an AR lens and aixiz module in 1. i did noticed my LOC was slightly brighter at night with those lens vs regular acrylics.

@qumefox, you think DX uses the same lens you buy for their red laser modules?
