So apparently the max current for the FlexDrive is only 1200mA, or so I read so I guess some values might need to be changed in the chart.

All the points are different diodes, not bench tests of single diodes, so it's probably just diodes with different efficiency.

Ah that makes more sense, i got confused cos they are all connected by a line that goes through them. I thought each line is one diode.

Thanks for clearing this up!

I'm gonna shine mine up in the air . . . see if you can see it . . .

695mw of 445 up in the air in 94025 @ 10:00PM "Verizon Time"

core i7 heatsink, flex v5 with Arctic Alumina/lead tape heatsink and 4 3800 mah NiMh sub cs . . .

take a pic if you can see it, 5 minutes unless a plane come in @ SFO

Sweet!

Hey Dave, what does 50mW's of blue compare to?

I'll bet it's much better visually than your best 12X huh?

Absolutely! Here are a couple of really quick beam shots. The 12X violet (bluray) is >550mW. The 445nm is ~50mW. There is nothing in the air. Just to remind myself that the 12X really is putting out >550mW, I accidentally burned my arm when setting up the "coming at you" shot. I was ~25 feet away from it at the time

Here is going away. You can barely discern the 12X's beam

Here it is coming at you. You can see the 12X (>550mW) beam better, but it is nowhere close to the 445nm (50mW) beam

Hey Dave-

Do you think one of these diodes might get off the ground with only 250mA? I was thinking about a pen build with an O-Like BR driver.

Might be worth a try, but I'd guess it'd be a waste of a diode with a lot more potential.

Thanks for that answer and pictures! :)

Makes me want a low power build now...

It will "get off the ground." The average lth is ~200mA.

Later this week I will be making a lecture pointer with a 445nm diode in a Newish style host. I am gong to see if I can get it lasing at <20mW.

It is never a "waste" to build what you want. My Key chain CR2 is only putting out 50mW and I am very happy with it.

Peace,
dave

Is the diode single mode at 50mW?

cool thanks . . . just curious about batteries . . .

everyone's pretty much running Li or a power supply I guess . . .

Not quite.

Diode Source: A130
Driver: FlexDrive V5
Current: ~550ma
Lens: Aixiz 405 Glass
Power: ~300mw (judged by heat on skin compared to other known power units, no LPM)
Host/ Heatsink: Dorcy Metal Gear with Aluminum custom sink
Run Time: <1 hr
Status: Alive

This setup is currently running 3xAAA NiMH cells. I do not recommend it, as even the ever-solid Eneloop AAA's start folding under the load before they are even half empty (when the laser dims and I pull the cells, they show 1.2V or so.)

The above numbers are from cells that are hot off the charger.

This was my "right-now" option when the 445nm's exploded on the scene; I'm planning a substantially bigger build with 18650 power.
