There's more than meets the eye to EzFocus adapters...

Fitting it properly, is not only knowing the host size, but it must be fit to the lens being used, depending on how far it sticks out the front. (at focus)

If the heatsink uses an AixiZ module, there is normally room for adjustment by moving the module position and setting it with the set screw.

For these new 445 A130 diodes, if your planning on using the AixiZ 445 lens (new AR coating - 400nm to 460nm), which is the best result for an off the shelf cheap solution. The lens sticks out farther than normal lenses.

I have custom EzFocus adapters specifically for these lenses. That will compensate for the lenses sticking out farther than normal...

Two types shown here...

First, this smaller 'Custom focus knob' that is fit for the silicone tail cap 'dust caps' we are used to...

It is the same diameter as an AixiZ focus ring. So that you can put a dust cap on it...

This way you can have a nice clean finish if using an AixiZ 445 glass lens with a 445 A130 build... (so that it doesn't look like it's sticking out the front)

Especially if you have a small build that doesn't have room for module positioning. Or if you have one of my press fit heatsink/modules for the 18650 kit. Then you will want one of these custom focus knobs for sure...

Hey Jay, if you drill a smaller hole through the aluminum cylinder (the knurled focus knob) instead of the even reduced aperture hole, could it take out some amount of splash without eating away the main beam?

I did a custom sleeve/retainer for my 405-G-1 and it worked nice. Dave tested it too. See here:

These new EzFocus adapters were designed specifically for the new AixiZ 445 lenses, but I can also fit them for my 405-G-1!

If I could save some trouble ordering from Aixiz and making a special request for the full-threaded lens, it would be nice...

The overall length of my 405-G-1 lens assembly is the same as the AixiZ 445, but it sits farther into the module at focus. So it looks shorter at focus. Only because it does not stick out as far...

The AixiZ 405 glass lens on the other hand, sticks out the front at focus. Which is why I came up with this custom Focus Knob idea.

About your custom host with the copper press fit heatsink. Yes, if you wanted to use an AixiZ 405 glass lens (with full length threads) in your build, then this focus knob will have the same look as in this picture:

Assuming I can remove the knob at will (so that maybe someday I can apply it to another, "new & improved" lens), then I'll take one off your hands :beer:

I asked the Professor if he had one laying around, but I take it you're currently the only source in LPF-town, so I don't have to worry about double-ordering the lens (he never replied to that question but I guess he only has your proto-lens, right...?).

This is just a lens from AixiZ (405 glass), that I made a custom knob for...

So that it hides the way the AixiZ lens sticks out the front. It sticks out the front more than other lenses at focus...

I think you might be thinking about the 'small aperture' sleeve/retainer I sent Dave for a 405-G-1 modification. See here:

The Custom Focus knob is the same O.D. as an AixiZ focus ring...

The EzFocus adapters are custom fit per host. Same O.D. as what ever host it is for.

There are other dimensions to consider for the EzFocus adapters.... (skirt size, depth, etc...)
