For green, the 808 pumps a crystal that lases at 1064nm, and then KTP doubles the 1064 to 532. For blue, the 808 pumps a crystal that lases at 946, and then LBO (or similar) doubles the 946 to 473.

the difference is that KTP is a more efficient doubling mdeium than the ones used for blue, and lasing at 1064 is more efficient than lasing at 946. But they both take exactly 2 steps.

No, they both use the same neodymium doped crystals. 946 is simply a minor line of the crystal while 1064 is a major one. THAT is the prime reason its less efficient. Think of it as an argon with mirrors for 488 vs an argon with mirrors coated for 457. Same lasing medium, different line, different power.

..... minus 59 nm ? ..... you divided "i" by zero somewhere, right ? ..... (j/k :p)

I'm sorry, I'm not used to using "i" as a complex number anymore, our professors made us use "j" as the "i" would confuse them (and students) with current :p

No. Niko can't divide by zero. Chuck Norris can!

Oh ..... then you mean that Niko is not Chuck Norris using an alternative nickname for not being recognized ? ..... (j/k :D)

@ Niko: current is I, not i ..... and please don't try to say me that I is for Ampere, when instead i is for milliAmpere .....

Yeah, I got ya. I know green generally uses Nd:YAG or Nd:YVO4, but I've read blue only works with one of these and not the other, and I can never remember which one of the two it has to be for blue. So instead of saying something wrong, I went vague with saying which crystal is being used.

Is it true only one of them is ok for blue? And which is it, if that's true?
