Just a couple pics. of my new He-Ne

Here's the first couple photos of my new Metrologic 15mW He-Ne (although measured with my LPM it's closer to 18mw)
I am amazed by the beauty of the beam, very bright for such low power.

All pics. with just a 2 or 3 second puff of my fog machine.
More to come but I'll have to wait untill the wife's gone to really blast out the fog.LOL:yabbmad:

The power suprised me. Usually the power is less then stated on the label. Being the laser is 18 years old,I was thinking maybe 8mW or 9mW. max. Either it hasn't been used much at all or somebody has replaced the tube.:crackup: The beam looks almost as bright as my 200mW dilda. But much,much tighter. I belive its the nm difference that fools the eyes. Also this laser looks much more orange then my other He-Ne. No nm ratings are posted anywhere on it although.:scowl:
More pics. to come. Next time I'll use more fog and a tripod although.

It looks nice, and that power is pretty crazy, must be a long tube!


As for the wavelength, it's 632.8nm, should be about 2-3 times as bright as 650-660nm, the thin beam helps more of course.

I should be getting my first HeNe in just over a week!

Here's a couple more with a lot more fog. Used a tripod but it didn't seem to make much of a difference. I still need a lot of practice photographing lasers.:thinking:
Any of you good photographers know why the pictures are so grainy? This is my first attempt at photographing light sources.

I don't mean to be a nit-picker here, but anyone notice anything odd about the 2nd pic on the first post? Take a look where the beam passes by the paneled wall and goes into the dark area on the left. Not sure how you set that shot up but I swear the beam looks like it was photoshopped over that part of the wall - in other words there's a dark edging around the beam. Not saying you did photoshop it, but I've just never seen an effect like that in any laser photos. If it's not photoshopped, it could be some kind of effect from your camera.

The other pics don't seem to have that, though, especially the pic with the beam bouncing off the mirrors in a zig-zag - that's a cool pic btw. The "graininess" could be a result of either low light levels or laser speckle.

yea I noticed that also. The beam looks much different in that pic than in any other. I don't see why he'd photoshop just one of the pics though. Unless his camera couldn't pick it up correctly and he tried to compensate for that.

Pretty cool. It is red or orange? It looks red on the first picture and it looks pretty much orange on the second one.

The anwser to both is: It,s a crappy (for laser beam shots anyway) $99.00 HP 6-Megapixel camera. (QUOTE 1) I had to take app. 60 shots to get that one to come out in the second pic. I don't know what that dark edge is, but I do see it. I had to tweak up the saturation in all the pics.(So I guess technically all of them are photoshopped)LOL

QUOTE 2 I used way more fog in the second set-up, so I think that's why it looks more orange. (yellow walls?)

Wow the color is awsome. I like the way it bounces. HeNe lasers are always surprising.
