Dark Horse and Dark Lasers

To all LPF-members:

It has come to my attention about some confusion about my affiliation with "darklaser.com".

I have recently had several newer-members assume that I was somehow part of this other web-store. I cleared the issue with them, but just the last few days I have had some of my closest-friends on LPF assume that I have something to do with him, perhaps even the same person. I have never even had any contact with "DarkArmyOfOne".

One long-time member even complemented me on my "new web-site", not really that "new" anymore now I replied. He explained that he used Google to find my store because he could not remember the address at the moment. He typed-in the basic keywords that many would use to find my store, "dark" and "laser", guess who popped-up, now with the very similar-look, even my associates believed they were on my site! :(

Another close friend and senior forum-member finally sent me link to his site last night, also confused. I had not visited this site until now, what I seen is that his format is very similar to my web-template, but the kicker is that his background-image is one of the rotating-background images directly from my site. I want to be clear, I do not own exclusive-rights to this image, but I did get it from a rather obscure-location and it would be naive of me to assume that he happened across it independently and chose it for his similar-named, and formatted web-site, selling similar products, with the exact-same background-image, located at a very similar URL.

I am not at all concerned about losing business to this other vendor, as we at Dark Hosre Custom only provide our own products to the forum-members. Our whole web-store was started, (1 1/2 years ago), as a conveience to by beloved fellow forum-member and not as a "profit-center". He can't sell our products, unless we were to sell them to him, because I make them. But it concerns me greatly that my reputation could be associated with someone else, anyone else.

Self-identity is an important thing, but especially when used in a forum-setting or in business. I do not see any other vendors on the forum that have any similarities at all, except possibly in the items that they sell, except for the aforementioned member and myself. In a little quick review of posts, I see that this other member is even referred to as "Dark" for short, which is understandable, given his user-name but another source for continued confusion.

Those who know me, know that I avoid controversy, petty arguments and spamming, even sometimes at my cost. I guess it is assumed that because one does not exercise force, it is assumed that I am weak. I tend only to post to add useful information to this forum. Note my post-count after 2-years, but many of those posts were detailing very unique and "first-of-its-kind" information. But I cannot allow this to continue without me speaking-up and clearing the air. This post is not me "pounding my fist" and saying that Darklasers must develop his own clear-identity. I cannot see any firm-ground upon which to do so, nor is it my style, (hence the name "Dark Horse"). I do however want to inform everyone on the forum that we are not the same person and have no affiliation whatsoever.

I am not "calling" for anything here, there is no "veiled-threat" or "call-to-arms" here, I am however making it distinctly clear, since it seams there are other forces at work to the contrary.

I have attached an image of each of our homepages, judge for yourselves.

Happy building,
Barry

This unfortunate-situation has been resolved :) Thanks to Tyler (Dark Lasers) for his excellent cooperation and a special thanks Charlie-bruce for his "mad-HTML skillz" and super-fast response:)
Barry

I knew that background looked familiar. Tyler (darkarmyofone/dark lasers) must have just grabbed it from your site. Kinda' confusing.
Thanks for clarification. ;)

Unfreaking believable!

If these were good profitable businesses, he would never survive a court fight.

@ Tyler (DarkArmyofOne -- Dark Lasers)

Have you no shame at all, Tyler (DarkArmyofOne)?

Or do you simply have so little actual experience in the world of lasers that you honestly didn't know about Dark Horse Customs?

If it is an honest mistake, fix it.

If you just thought that you were so slick that no one would notice, you were wrong on yet another count of this (not the first time).

I left your webpage alone in my last investigation of you so that you could, at least, still provide a service to this community with parts. Don't call me into your business/life again.

Don't whine. Don't justify. Don't yell. Don't explain.

Just fix it.

BE a MAN!

Peace,
dave

I wholly agree. I have to find it hard to think that the background was an accident now that I see it. I would think more than just a few website changes are necessary here.

I did notice you had the same backgrounds when I was looking though your page for heatsinks, I thought it was just a coincidence but if it's the same URL, it is a little suspicious.

If he changes his background then I don't think there's much of an issue, apart from morally but the only thing similar then is his name, but he joined with that name so that was definitely just coincidence, dark is a common word.

I know the guy that made the wallpaper on Deviantart :)

We still have a couple of dozen DJR full-body heatsinks ready to go. We plan to do a full restock of updated heatsinks for new hosts, plus some other laser-related items by the end of the year. I also plan to add some high-voltage-items to the catalog, Kits for building Tesla-Coils, Van de graff generators, etc. Stay tuned.

For everyone's information,

As some of you might know, I helped both D_H and Tyler ("Dark Army of One") with their site designs. Tyler's "design brief" was a similar, dark-style look and feel to the site, to fit with his branding of "Dark Lasers". When I was doing so, I used the same image as I used on D_H's site as a "place-holder" image, which was never meant to be released to general viewing. However, he was in a bit of a rush to release his site quickly, and he never got back to me regarding the new background. I never fully realised how similar the sites looked until I saw that side-by-side picture, however. I'm going to PM DAoO ASAP and see if I can get this sorted. It was never my intention to make the sites look so similar, and for that I'd like to apologise to both members.

Hi there charlie first of all it is not your fault. Im a tech support here in a big website company here in the philippines, this is our business now, technically, tyler knows that your design is not yet final, and i know that you informed him that, but since he is on a rush to publish that site, then you are out of it already, now that tyler is informed about this, he must fix this otherwise he can be sued because of these. Anyway, i was out in the forum for almost 3 days and when i logged on i saw some issues about tyler. I first was about to trust him and he even helped me in some inquiries, but yeah i remember asking him about a blue ray laser build and it was way overpriced for me. When i met scopeguy20 and ordered my first phr diodes with him, i learned to build my own, now i have 10 PHR lasers in different hosts, im building for my friends too. I guess this issue of website thing must be dealth by tyler himself since he is the OWNER of the business.

That does clear some thing up a bit Charlie. I also might mention that you have done a great job on both-sites. I have to admit the image, along with all the other simlarities, brought to my attention all at once, along with the resulting customer-confusion, really spiked my concerns. However, now that it is an issue, the problems do not seam to end with a common-image.

Thanks for your candid information, this really helps me understand. Also, thank you for all of your tireless work on my site.

That does seem a little suspicious, but we should probably just ask darkarmyofone to clarify. In my experience, he seems to be a decent guy.

also, I know who Dark Horse is, and I know about his website. However, I have been with lpf for between one and two years. Lately, within the last six or so months, I have heard no updates, mentions, ect of dark horse at all throughout the forums. Therefore, I think it is not that far fetched if Tyler claims he hasn't heard of Dark Horse Customs, considering Tyler has only been on lpf for maybe 6 months or so. just my two cents. I have nothing against Dark_Horse, I am just stating my opinion.
