No, I don't sell on ebay. But it is a bit tiring, all these "bashing" posts here. The energy people are wasting on a silly ebay auction... aren't there better things to do?

So you think he should continue peddling his wares, drenched with lies? Also, this is a forum - if they're here they've obviously got some time to spare.

Bottom line: This is a laser forum. not a cookie, car, or aggriculture forum. We talk about ALL things lasers. So if somebody catches something odd somewhere about lasers, it deserves its place here. Just like when we find youtube vids about lasers or written reports of laser eye surgery. The only thing that does seem out of place, is some LPF members quickly becoming known as thread bashers and negative nancys.

This isn't about the "legality" of the item, but the fact that the seller is blatantly embellishing his auction for the pure intent of ripping off someone who doesn't know better.

"many" here offer bad advice, make inaccurate statements, manufacture and distribute illegal products, dispute and violate safety issues, and exaggerate claims, mostly through ignorance on the subjects or just lying. I see many similarities. The Ebayer is too ignorant to be decevious, be thankful that you cant be fooled by his load of bs. But who are you to be policing ebay when you turn a blind eye to what is in front of you. hypocrisy... If he were a member of this forum...would you treat him differently?

I only reported this because I thought it best that the auction be removed. If someone were to buy the laser thinking it was 5mW and then sustained retinal damage because it's actually 200mW then it would cause a lot of trouble IMO. I wouldn't have minded so much if the auction stated that the laser was in fact 200mW and that extreme caution should be used when handling it as well as something a long the lines of " Laser goggles for red laser wavelengths should be work when operating said device " being added. I don't mind all the BS about red being the shortest wavelength etc. That's just for boosting the sales, loads of companies do that.

here know a bit about laser safety and would probably not look into a laser's
beam without goggles...
But I also believe that the majority of people that would buy a laser like that
off eBay do not know that much about lasers/safety and would be more at
risk from a laser labeled <5mW but actually outputs 200mW..

I think that's what some of the members were trying to get across..

2 wrongs don't make a right. So from that stance D_V is correct. But there is obviously a difference between LPF and its members than ebay. Main difference is that LPF is not a store. The members who sell, at least in my experience are upfront and honest with what they do sell (honesty and legality being different topics). And the pool of knowledge that is here is beyond adequate. People don't just stumble here, go to the bst section, then risk their money on a private person. But that is just an observance. Also I guess what it comes down to is a persons comfort level, buyer and seller. I'm rolling with jerry on this one! :na:

The FDA says lasers are illegal to possess, you telling me that's true? If so the FDA isn't a a federal law enforcement organization. It's actually an agency of the department of health and human services.

Again it goes back to this: If the local city police would be required to arrest me for having a laser above 5mW at that point the lasers would be gone. Until then the issue is one of making lasers and selling them. I have no plans to sell mine, thus no issue for me.

I don't think anything above 5mW should be easy to acquire that much I fully agree with. I don't think anyone under 18 years of age should be allowed to own one either. I know many forum members would hate that idea. I'd have no problem registering my lasers by the way. FDA would need to loosen their restrictions as not all of mine have the safety features.

IIRC... you can not SELL >5mW that don't meet the safety standards
in the USA....:tsk:
I'm not an expert on USA or FDA guidelines or laws... so don't quote me
I'm just stating what I believe is the case...
