LOL, you can't go wrong with "Mothers" unless somebody "invents" "Fathers", also shrouded in mystery and magic :)
Thank you for sharing the technology :). I didn't know that 6000 grit paper does exist. To go further, I use simple printing paper, but it quickly becomes glossy and loses it's abrasive properties or gets torn into pieces.
In my country, 20y ago, at home, we were using toothpaste to polish (mostly plastic) things. It worked, because the toothpaste back then consisted of very small abrasive particles, probably CaCO3.

Thanks Jhop and AngelG!

You don't see sandpaper that fine too often, automotive stores will usually have up to 2000/2500 grit on hand.
I got this paper in a variety pack at a local hobby store (Hobby Lobby). The pack includes paper grits up to 12000 grit! :yh:

Below is a pic of the package that I bought.

awesome!that's really surprised me, thanks for sharing

Always check the dates on a post before posting.. The last comment was back in 2016. The majority of members do not like when this is done. Just a heads up, read the stickies on everything as there's tons of useful information. Stickies you can comment on as long as you have something to contribute to the topic, otherwise it will be frowned upon

OK,thanks

Don't take me wrong on this though, I've almost made comments like that on threads that were so inspiring and interesting that I forget to check the date myself, I just wouldn't like it if someone who was not as patient would comment with something harsh and I'll admit that if it wasn't for your comment, I would have never seen bowtie's awesome build.
@BowtieGuy what I said above is all true, it really is a beautifully built host and the process you mentioned about not skipping on the grit increments to get that look was something worth learning about, thanks

It was over two years ago last I posted here. That was a very beautiful build, and Jeff did a great job of photographing the build sequence. I have few of these small builds myself. I am always concerned about heat sinking and run times. I do remember this build, however. Just flawless.

Thank you gentlemen, I appreciate the kind comments; I will have to pull Frankie out of storage and exercise him a bit, and he probably needs a re-polish job too! :)

This thread is not ready for the graveyard just yet.. There is another set of the same AixiZ green parts in already in the hands of another skilled craftsman and one or two sets not yet given out.

LR is being helpful but is not quite right about posting--it does not have to be a sticky and the necro 'rule' has grey areas IMHO --- So If william had replied that he knew the date of the last post and since he and others (many) have joined since it dropped down the list--- & I would have to give him a 'pass' of this one EVEN if I had no part in it. BTG has given his blessings for the others to add their creation or a link to it in his tread.

I am a firm believer that what goes around comes around.
Chuck at AixiZ has be extremely generous in many ways.
Past Sponsor of LPS.org-& ILDA Corp member and TEXLEM 2012 - and same for 4 SELEMs
$1000 donated in door prizes.
So this is another chance to give Chuck and Xia a free plug.

Jeff has done an excellent job all the way around and anyone wanting to see a great example of an epic build thread--this one is it.

So -- just how are newer members to find these 'gems'?
AND there are many more like this....
I say NO HARM-NO FOUL.
We all like his work and be it the first time seeing it or more.. nice work Jeff.
Chuck will like to see this 'necro'

I was at a forum recently that was so SLOW???

how slow?

EVERY post was a necro!!!
Doubles and more are welcome.
Never banned anyone. ever
No spelling or grammar nazis
I started a thread-- last one started was a year ago. No replies yet.
Everybody is a Mod. ( all 7 of them)

JK made most of that up--sorry

While tying to post w/ quote.. I got the 'OOPs we ran into a problem' (3 times)so I keep trying and thus same quote 3 times.. IF it bother you please do whatever. (pleases you)
same with this double-- I am NOT touching that thread after having to work at it for 30 min. Pics are giving me issues as well. I load two and get two but the same pic twice.
I try to dele the extra and both are gone.. WTH?? AND the keyboard when at PL has been messed with and it looks like typing was done by apes.
Compose in word then copypasta.. is my workaround--TY Buffo

I might have come off a bit too harsh in the wording of the first comment I left. Please do forgive me as English really is not my native language. Although it is not an excuse for I went back to read my comment and it makes me sound like a rude asshole. A great point was made about how threads with lots of info about how to put a laser together that did not earn a sticky, would be lost in the vast amount of posts and discussions. Now I am left questioning what to do in such cases... Pay me no mind, it's all half sleep ramble at best since Ive been busy at work and I've tried to sneak in a build or two at 1am before getting up to go to work at 5am this past week

NO WORRIES M8,

I am no mod but.. while Jeff's laser and 'tutorial' w/ great pics is a first rate thread .. LPF cannot give every great thread a sticky. BUT you can place a link to this thread in your sig.
Some may not see the date of last post and post there but .. A link to it would be good to put in the "tutorial'' section. That is one section that does not get lots of new threads-- so a link post might be seen for a long time.

As said two more sets of brass parts are going out asap. So in time we should seen 3 more builds..

Keep helping. We are always in need of a member PMing a newcomer to offer a personal welcome.. see first if they have included location into profile and/or in 'Intro' thread with location IN THE TITLE.. win win win win IF they help us to help them,..
NOW us losing the members location under username in every post really is a shame. It went from just PMing newcomers about MAYBE--please-add location into profile-_DONE
Now a few do all three or 2 out of 3 great!

-- and some with intro or profile location but no more.

And having to EDIT or MAKE an intro and add location to their title.

EVEN asking nice -- results are mixed.
SOME say TY for the advice--some ignore me- ONE got pissed off about just being asked and was a member of MANY forums and never got asked such requests.. he left-

more coming soon..
end rant.___

@ Richie89
very cool build! that switch looks like a pain!

I am telling all that the switches may need an 'upgrade' for sure the weakest part of this 532..( which sucked down primary batt fast.)
Some of these were returned to AixiZ due to switch issues.. iirc these were ~$40 plus ship. When Chuck knew he would stop selling
--- (coz everything [almost] gets cheaper.). so he took down the 'listing' while he still had some to replace (free) the ones returned. So he had these last leftovers for a LONG time..
heavy brass-long duty cycle.. crappy switch..oh well.. switches can be replaced.
