Finally got my 505 diode module, had it soldered into my 501B host, went to put it together and a wire snagged and ripped the diode off the driver and snapped the pins off the diode.

So there goes 95$ and the last singular care I have for this hobby. I'm about ready to take every single laser I own and run them through my microwave and end this hobby once and for all. Its utter trash how uselessly fragile this garbage is. I'm out.

It happens, anyone that's ever done a build has had this happen. No need to go destroy components that are still useful because you're having a hissy fit. If you couldn't afford to lose the cost of a 505 diode then you shouldn't have started the project in the first place, we all know how sensitive LDs can be.

I killed my first 510nm diode, snapped the pins clean off. Messed up the second build and had to take it apart and start again. These things happen, acting like a child sure won't get you anywhere though.

Yeah, this hobby can be extremely frustrating at times, no doubt, but the end result is always worth it even if it takes a few tries or you end up buying a prebuild module. My first build was a complete disaster; diode, driver and module ruined due to mistakes on my part:

Jeez Simon, what did you try and solder that with? A bar of solder and a blowtorch?

For future reference, that diode isn't pressed properly either.

I've fried a few diodes myself, broken the leads off like that too. Matt isn't comfortable with my offer, it's an open offer.

actually this diode could be fixed from a skilled person on soldering,personally i have manage to fix 2 broken pins from a 3,8mm diode without even magnifier and the diode still works

It was already a pre-soldered module. The wires coming off the driver snagged when I was putting it together and twisted the driver and severed the pins. I don't know if I even want a replacement because quite plainly my desire to even pick up a soldering iron ever again has been reduced to nothing. I'm sick of electronics and how absurdly delicate all these expensive components are. I'm tempted to dump my entire toolbox in the river and give up building or repairing anything. Time to embrace the disposable culture, if it breaks it goes in the trash where it belongs.

Yeah its almost like I was serious when I said I wasn't bothering with trying to build anything anymore. If my setting it all on fire wasn't clear enough I can dig out my torch and reduce the whole thing to a puddle of molten metal.

Two weeks ago in two nights I killed 3 diodes.. two 40$ drivers.. I galvo mirror... and prolly something else.
Few weeks before that I blew my 1watt 520. Honestly the more stuff I break the easier it is to handle.. not in the wallet by any means... it's a hobby not a career.

Blarg King--sounds like the problem is is not so much laser related as it is that you need to find a better job in your area or move to an area where there are better employment possibilities rather than continue hitting your head against a wall with no hope of a better day, where you are.
