Side Button or Rear Clicky

Hi LPF,
I was wonder about preference in a host button would appreciate your input.
What would be your choice in a host, A side button or a Rear button to operate a laser host?

A side button could be handy but only if it also has a rear switch as well, if just one or the other then I prefer a rear switch/button.

Would be quite nice seeing something with a momentary side swith and a rear click button for long runs.

For heavy sized multimode builds I prefer rear button, but for low power, nice divergence single modes I would always choose momentary side switch.

Depending on the electrician, the rear could be either constant run or a safety :beer:

I think that both are a good idea if there is room and it is practical.
In a very small host, a tail switch only is good choice, but in the mid to large hosts, I prefer a side switch if there is only one option. :yh:

I definitely prefer a momentary side button since I really don't run into situations where I need to leave a portable laser or pointer on continously. I think it's easier to press the button on the side than the rear when you're holding it too.

Definitely would have to agree the rear is a good safety, and both would be best though.

I prefer side switch. Momentary is best for high power lasers but either constant on/off or momentary is fine for low power.
In my opinion, continuous on is unsafe for very powerful lasers and especially if the switch is in the rear - it is more difficult to access quickly if it needs to be turned off.

Both, generally. Tail power on/off --side whatever function is needed.

From a custom one at a time host makers standpoint I would guess being able to offer and deliver what any customer wants either which way is the best choice. What a paying customer wants is what matters.

Yeah, like your suggestion for another host instead of picking between two WLs.

But as the curator of the Southern Museum, I have to agree with my Northern counterpart.

I like both and as Mr Alaskan states, it "makes accidents one step further away".

Side and rear still in the lead, Great input guys basically this gives me ideas how to build them. Just finishing up on a REAR clicky 2X26650 AL / copper core /24AWG wire. i have a tendency to counter sink the rear latching switches so its harder for a accidental firing and you can stand them up.

I try to machine different ways so if a customer want a specific type of firing button or buttons you made a good point..

My PL-E has rear + side switches (and power indicators), and I love it!

Having both is good for safety.
