Vietnam Era 445nm /9mm field light

Hi,
Like to share a little history brought back to the future here on LPF. This field light is over 40 years old in awesome shape. I had this sitting around for about 10 years. So i figured to update it, the men who served our country and gave their live for our freedom could have used this back then.
In it is a 9mm /445nm /G2 lens// 2-32650 batteries ,machined heat sink and knob, 3W's tops and levels off to around 2960mW's.. the switch is dual mode momentary button and constant on/off Enjoy ..

I've been wanting to do similar a build in a 1930's era German light for a long time, maybe this will get me going on it.

Nice build, I love seeing lasers built into things like this. I've had a project in the back of my mind building a laser into a Nintendo zapper but I just haven't had the time for it!

This is an awesome build. Should build one more with interchangeable heads like how they had the interchangeable lenses for these. I would +Rep but I have to spread some. I've never seen a build like this one. Good Job!

Hi folks,
Thank you and glad you guys like it I. It was a fun build with the matching of the sink and knob. Also seeing very close to 3W,s was. Great to.
@EP sounds like a great idea with the Nintendo build would look to see that one done awesome
@Trend the lenses are still intact in the but of the light and a spare bulb I was going to make the sink flush and drill a hole in the red lens for a face on the sink . Hmmm maybe I will do just that.

That's really a good looking unit, original. With that 90% head does that mean you can lase around corners? :san: Like the dual action switch, that's snazzie. Have to give it to you, that's a great way to upgrade that flashlight, bet the guys that used it would think so too!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Working on the Luxpro build with your beautiful polished copper sink. Planning to post a build so you can see your work, working. Had to grind the pill to make room for the driver but I'm finished with that. Used dremel, slow, but not to bad. Nice sink, should make a nice home for that 044 at 5.0 amps.

Very nice, indeed! I love builds that bring back something unique or unexpected.

Does it use just the mechanical switch for on/off or does it have some sneaky electronics in there?

No a regular Army issue on/off switch two mode with a momentary button, Glad you enjoyed it i did also building it.

Thank you buddy yes i was really wanting to do this for a while now . Nice big sink and diode and it takes two 32650's to keep it running.
Hey can't wait to see those copper sinks in action pal that is one nice host to very well made from what i seen. they are worth building.
I tried the around corner thing but it just wouldn't bend the beam it has a mind of its own..

Awesome job! Got yourself a right angle burner!

I remember those flashlights when I was a kid in the 70's/early 80's. They had the red lens attachment for night use. As dim as they were, you could probably get away without the lens for nights, lol!

Even back then I thought "there has to be something better" for flashlight tech. Bulbs burning out, batteries wear down quickly, very dim output. I used to drool over every new flashlight that came out back then, but they were usually the same bulb/batteries/reflector with a different "high tech" plastic chrome body. Maglights were only marginally better performance wise. I only had to wait another 30-35yrs for anything brighter to come along!

yes i to remember those days pal, always looking for eveready batteries . I think they had a black cat with a lightning bolt on the label..I also do Mag light mods with the huge heat sinks have one in my plug n play thread . I always liked the field lights to since way way back , This build is perfect fort because it has a heavy duty switch and two modes to. Hey thanks for looking glad you and everyone else enjoyed the build.

Hi Accu,
It doesn't even get warm after two minutes , nice and cool from the mass of the heat sink. All of my large heat sink Plug n play and full builds don't get warm at all be it aluminum or copper heat sink.
