Did anyone manage to intsall and use the LaserBee 2.5 USB interface software and USB drivers on windows 8.1 OS (64 bit or 32bit)?

Jerry says that the interface software and USB drivers will not be compatible with windows 8.1 OS, and that my LaserBee 2.5W USB will need a new hardware and new driver update to work with Win8.

Did anyone find a way to circumvent this? Maybe got it to work in compatibility mode or by any other method on Win8?

:thanks:

UPDATE 23.6.14:

I sent my LaserBee 2.5W USB to Jerry eventually. He updated the hardware and sent me new driver update to work with Win8. Installed my repaired LaserBee, and all is up and running again.
:gj:

It costed a few bucks of course...

Actually the hardware is completely fine with windows 8.1, Linux and MacOSX 10.9.2, the problem is that Jerry is using POS (.NET framework) to write the graphing software
(Eagle Eye).
Use Peregrine 1.5.0 and you'll be able to connect to your laserbee and any other laser power meter from the LPF.

cheers.

Thanks guys.

How do I install?

I downloaded 'Peregrine_1_5_0_4.zip' and unzipped it.

Then, I went to the 'Windows' folder, hit the 'Peregrine.exe' and got an error message saying 'Windows is unable to locate javaw.exe'.

Please advise.

Peregrine should solve your problems it's free, even when running the LB interface software in compatibility mode it crashes a lot on Win 7.

I got the same error, I downloaded the latest java and installed. Ran fine after that.

Actually there is a way of running Jerry's Eagle Eye though WINE or Bottler that can run .NET framework in a self contained package.
This makes it free from emulation.

ChaosLord, thank you it worked.

But why is it running on debug mode? And why another small window titled 'Serial Console' is opened?

Seoul_lasers, can you elaborate on that?

Is there a way to install and run Jerry's Eagle Eye on Win 8 (64 bit)?

:thanks:

I have successfully edited Peregrine in the new Java environment.
Under processing 2.1.2 there is a new Control P5 that seems to run a little
faster.
I've also made changes to the GUI size and the result is a larger
properly re-sized workspace.

The app also has a custom icon.

I hope Trevor and others will try out my new updated version.

I'd still like add a few things like a real time customizable scale...
Etc

Wow... Long day... Need rest.

Peregrine is not working for me.

Selected measurement-new-start, it says 'Waiting for input', I shine my laser to the sensor- and no reading.

USB driver installed and com port is set properly.

What am I missing?

One more thing, it is running on debug mode and another small window titled 'Serial Console' is opened.

What OS are you running it on?

If mac then this means your java libraries are locked up.
Fixing this requires a terminal command.
Windows doesn't have this problem.
Post some further details so we see exactly what's
going on.

Funny how .NET is supposed to be a platform agnostic, or at the very least on Microsoft's platforms, and yet...

Had the same problem with my Laserbee too, conacted Jerry and they offered to replace my Profilic Chip for free but shipping it both ways to Canada costs more than my unit! :p
After days of searching for a solution I found this (Left Brain Tinkering: USB to Serial (Prolific 2303) Device Cannot Start (Code 10) in Windows 8) and it works like a charm since then!

Have a nice day,
Jim

The problem is that the Prolific USB to serial device that Jerry was using is now discontinued. I simply used an Arduino USB to serial adapter and Eagle-eye was back up on my COM1 under Windows 8.1.

 There are 3 connections from the laserbee +5Vdc, Gnd and TX.
And no you can't damage your unit by doing this despite what you know who might say...
