There was a group buy with CNI some time ago. A member bought a 589nm 80mW from the group buy and ended up selling it to me shortly afterwards. The laser had some issues, a beam coming out on an angle, and the beam profile was smeared. I sent it back to CNI for repair. they replaced it and here is a video of the replacement performance: 120mW / 153mW peak over 5 min runtime!! testimony to the value and quality of CNI.

Wow, that is WAY overspec! normally peoples 589's hit 120, but i have never seen 150. Also, the laser seems very unstable...seems to hop around a lot from 120-150mW. Of course, it could be the meter.

From my experince these kinds of low efficiency DPSS lasers are usually this unstable due in part to lack of temp control among other things. Its actually pretty good because it doesnt show those extreme dips in power one often sees. the meter is pretty stable when testing with a LD.

Yea solid state handhelds tend to be iffy, crystal temp. affects the output a lot. Still though, 70mW overspec isnt bad!

I was only around for about 1 month before he left and I looked over his posts and he seemed like a pretty nice guy, most people just seem to have an issue with his LPM's and how he "Dosen't support his product".

You should read this, it explains quite a bit of the history that happened before you joined the forum, from one developers perspective. Kenom would probably have an equally long account of his experiences with Jerry.

If that's too long the conclusion sums it up nicely.
So yeah. The long and short of it is, Jerry hates competition. He hates open-source projects... probably because they make it easier to compete in the LPM "market" - what of it there is.

He deserves all those red bars for his behavior in the LPF marketplace. We could have so much better stuff now - but he repeatedly ran new developers off the forum to maintain his monopoly.

He'd rather expend effort harassing competition than innovating. In his experience, it is more effective.

Wow, I understand now and he does deserves all those red bars. I mean if you are going to open a buisness expect competition...I mean you aren't going to be the only one making LPM. Sounds like a very immature and rude member now that I got the full details, thank you again ARG!

This... happens sometimes with the PGL-C 589s. I'd not bank on it... but I ended up with a 10mW PGL-C 589 that did ... 120mW. Really. Blew me away. Was even labeled 10mW. I think I wrote about it sometime on here, but I was a happy camper.

Glad this is still happening some... I don't think I've seen an *underspec* 589 PGL-C for what it's worth, but I've had a few bad GLP 589's. (DOA or dead after a few months.) I'd definitely recommend after "learning the hard way" to spend the extra for a PGL when it comes to 589 from CNI.
