Another thing: if you have a sticky, you should maintain the sticky. Relevant posts within the sticky should be linked from the OP as references so that people don't need to sift through pages of discussion just to find those nice relevant tid-bits.

7 color tutorial is cool, but maybe not sticky worthy, but the phaser is the most viewed thread on the forum by a long shot. (over 265,000 views)

I've put a lot of tutorials and stuff out there, but nothing has ever had anywhere near that popularity. (edit - I was wrong, there are other threads with more views) Just that reason alone is sticky worthy in my opinion. (of course I'm partial)

What harm is there in leaving it stickied? (the most viewed thread the forum has ever had in it's history)

I'll wait for other opinions.

Views don't equate to builds though, maybe a lot of trekkies googled it and led them here?

But yes I think we'll leave that alone.

There is no "harm" in having the stickys, just trying to tidy things up.

There are hundreds of link backs from other sites on that one...

It has generated a lot of new users. (good or bad?) I think good right?

Ok, well it doesn't need to be a sticky to generate linkbacks then, so I'll just unsticky it.

Please don't un-sticky the phaser thread in the tutorial section.

Because it is the most viewed thread in LPF history, and for that reason alone I think it deserves a sticky in the tutorial section... (edit - I was wrong, there are other threads with more views)

Personally I kind of like that thread, and yes people do end up going there purely from google searches.

It's not the most viewed thread on lpf though, not even close.

Care to elaborate?

And yeah I don't wanna come across as the asshat here, I'm not LOOKING to delete the thread, I'm looking for opinions on what should stay and what should go..

Actually I thought the phaser thread was further down the line.

The white fusion is really awesome, I agree. It was that build that gave me a better understanding of combining lasers. I would like to see a guide stickied on multi-diode lasers that would link to relevant builds, as that would provide more information for the new guys.

I did not consider the phaser build though, many people probably came to LPF because of that build. Couldn't hurt in keeping that, though as Ped pointed out it doesn't have to be a sticky to generate link backs.

Care to elaborate?

TJ's wicked lasers thread is over a million IIRC.

I think that Star Trek Phaser mod is fine. After all, it does go through the process of converting some toy-host into a laser-based project and it's actually quite detailed. I think it has more merit on its own than the White Fusion tutorial only because the white fusion tutorial requires a special kit to get working. Sure, the phaser mod uses Jayrob's heatsink, but you could build them out of any general heatsink, and most of the magic is rigging the laser up within the toy-host.

What I do like about the White Fusion thread is that it shows how to cannibalize a sled for beam combining, and also the process of aligning lasers using a bottle to form a single beam. That's valuable information and could be used in the context of other beam aligning. The kit-aspect and the need for components that are hard to obtain or aren't made anymore is a negative strike against the tutorial though.

Stickies really should be about techniques and ideas, not products unless they're widely available or archetypical. The product-specific assembling tutorials would be best inside the stickied for-sale threads themselves.
