Re: Worlds most powerful handheld 4.4W 445nm

Great laser been waiting forever for it to be finished. Now im already thinking about a 3 diode 6w build :D Cant imagine the burning power of 4W of 445 let alone 6 haha. Good job looks like a very hard build to get perfect

Re: Worlds most powerful handheld 4.4W 445nm

It would be easier to make another since I know the tricks to making one now, but I don't have the money to start on another one

Sell this to take money to build another one :D

Why do you give me these ideas. :p I'm really tempted to start another build, I've got no projects to work on at the moment. I love this laser to much to sell it though :yh:

I am very impressed. 4.4W in a handheld is unbelievable!!!

Re: Worlds most powerful handheld 4.4W 445nm

Thanks guys :)

I just tried to get a dot picture today. I went into a grass field and set up a cardboard box as the beam stop and used a 15mW green laser to align it. I mounted it on a tripod and got my friend to turn it on and turn it off. I took the picture but when I got home it wasn't recognizable, the spot was too bright and the photo just looked like a massive blue spot. I will try for a better picture later with a better camera. It would be better in the daytime, but then there are people around the field.

Re: Worlds most powerful handheld 4.4W 445nm

It's very time consuming to build, and the parts alone cost a lot. This is probably the first and last dual diode (of the same wavelength) laser I will make.
It would be easier to make another since I know the tricks to making one now, but I don't have the money to start on another one

Take it back. Having done what you did it is too later to say "last dual diode(of same wavelength) I will make."

You can't say that ---you are just getting started---you just did a first working prototype----much fine tuning and tweaking is necessary to optimize all aspects of the design before your concept/design is finalized. What you made is only proof of concept. Now that you know the tricks from hands on experience and have proven you concept work---the real fun can begin---time to optimize ( fine tune and tweak) your prototype and finalize all aspects of the design and production of same----you made the knife now time to sharpen it to razor sharp IMHO.

Please make another one --a fine tuned and tweaked improved version.
How about gold plated solid copper heat sink? How about easier alignment.

If money to do next one is a concern, I am sure there are several forum member who would fully support your building another one or two.

How about do two pieces at same time of and improved version---one for you to keep as reference and one to go to person funding the doing of a next and improved version?

Oh I get it, ARGLaser - you only said "This is probably the first and last dual diode (of the same wavelength) laser I will make."

You only said "probably" which means you are not against making another or more, if it make sense to do so----also doesn't rule out a tri-diode bulid at some point either nor dual or tri diode multi-wavelength builds.

Very cleverly worded.

In whatever direction you go, beyond hat you have already accomplished, you can count on my support if you need or want same----whatever I can do, I will do--just PM me. I am sure same goes for many members.

Thanks again for all the time and effort you put into this first dual diode, single wavelength 4.4W 445nm handlheld.

It is a real joy to see someone take hold of a difficult thing to implement in the real world. wrestle all the obstacles to the ground, and at the end of the day come up with a stunning and functional prototype.

Re: Worlds most powerful handheld 4.4W 445nm

@Encap

Thanks for the kind words. :)
I do have another multi diode laser in the design phase already. It's a tri wavelength build, and I think once I have all the design ideas done I will sell this one for money to build the other. It's only sketches and rough ideas at the moment, but I hope to impletment very small adjustable brass mounts to cut down on the hardest part of the build.

A tri diode build of the same wavelength would be hard to pull off well. Knife edging the beams just stacks another one on the side and wont give the same power density without correction. Dichros and cubes are easy to make everything line up well.

Great job! That beast must look impressive in person!

I wonder how does the beam / dots look at 100m.

Yeah, it looks far more impressive than a photo could ever show.

Just like a regular sinle diode laser, the beams don't split :D

Could you take a photo of that? I'm just curious...:tinfoil:

if I could sell my 473nm handheld, then I could finance part of the new project ;)
