Yeah, that doesn't look very healthy. Up next he'll go for matching forearms.

Where there's a will, there's a way!

Lathe? I don't need no stinking lathe!

The funny thing is that it could theoretically be done. Not by a software update of course, but by making the phone case a faraday shield to 2.4GHz and having a specialty receiving antenna built in that is external to the faraday shield which feeds an ultrafast RF diode bridge. The output from that bridge would go to a high efficiency buck converter, which could feed the lipo charger.

It is totally impractical though as it would have to be designed to be a very high impedance (and this a strong impedance mismatch to the magnetron) so that received power is low enough to be handled by passively cooled components. Additionally, you can only charge a lipo so fast without it exploding. Then there is the cost and space factor of using high precision passive filter networks to keep the 2.4GHz out of the radio modules, including a high end buck converter, specialty case and screen fabrication for the shielding, etc. Oh and don't forget you'll be burning 1800Watts of power to run the microwave to transfer ~10-20watts of energy to the cell phone that still charges largely the same speed as a wall plug and cord.

There was some talk a few years back of using wirelessly transmitted power to charge portable electronics via specialty RF base stations and tuned antenna receiver modules. It worked fine, but was extremely expensive and of course incredibly inefficient. You typically saw no better than 5% efficiency for VERY short range distances between base and receiver.

Lol thats better than the "ios 7 waterproof update" that got people to destroy their phones by dropping them in water :p

Hey guys, so you know how you keep getting the emails from that annoying nigerian prince? I haven't in a while, but I still remember them. Well it looks like he'll finally get to spend some of that money...

Not to mention some other geniuses :eg:

Not to worry, I hear Apple is working on a patch to enhance passive cooling, and permit microwave charging with the next patch
