Here's one of pyro's really old video where you can kind of see the effect at :28. He's doing it with smoke in the room too (obviously).

I was going to post this exact video. In this case I used fog from a fog machine, so the heat from the flame evaporates the microscopic liquid droplets in the air. The beam will reflect off the droplets, but not if the droplets evaporate.

Interesting, at first I thought

1. The focused dot is too bright, so it affect the camera's exposure.

2. The Matches was in fact in the way of the light, absorbing the light, so of course the light didn't pass through, but then when it light up, the fire sort of burn out somethings, so the laser can pass again.

3. The matches was in fact in the way of the light, absorbing it, then when it lit up, man's hand moved, so the light passes again

But then I can't explain what happen to the second red laser video
