why is my greenie turning yellow??

I have noticed an unusual phenonenum(sp?)---------when using green pointers in the presence of an argon laser. Once the argon is fired up my greens turn a shade of green much closer to yellow in color- guess this would be a good question for Dr. Sam or Leslie Wright or Chris L. thanks in advance to any members who can enlighten me on this.:-}---LaserLen

I would imagine this phenomenon generated in your mind from the contrast between the two colors. The argon output is not interfering with your green, and it is physically impossible for a green DPSS laser pointer to produce anything but 532nm +-1nm (plus a little residual IR).

Wow, interesting. Some pics would be nice. Is it possible it's just your eye's reaction to an increase in a lower wavelength light entering the retna? I don't know just a theory? It will be interesting to see why this is happening?

Not sure it would be evident in a photo but I will try anyway- its weird if you walk into another room the color goes back to green- I will have to see if it is the same with one of my HeNe greens. thnks for the responce.

Now this is what we all pray for our green lasers turning yellow :crackup: what you are experencing is your eyes compensating for the two different beam colors and powers it would be realy cool I would send you some greenees to put close to your big'un if I thought they would change but I doubt it :crackup::crackup: have a good day ! Its an opticall illusion created by the two different colors. Your eyes can interpet two sample of identical colors as being different merely by changing the color of its back drop. Its possible that scatter and reflections are changing the tint or shade of the room enough that this illusion becomes possible.
