Fantasy light saber. C'mon guys, that's about it really. That's why there are NO women interested in lasers per say. It's a Star Wars fantasy toy. All the practical applications mentioned can be done with very low powers. The fantasy light saber is the only application that requires more than 10 mW.

I'll step out on a limb here and suggest that I also believe the laser light show crowd is also stuck on the light saber fantasy. The drawing of wire frame cartoonish characters is little more than colorful pissing in the snow, in my opinion. How many women are involved in THAT industry?

Enjoy the fantasy. Don't get all defensive about it. I like seeing laser beams from a spiritual and Feng Shui perspective. They're representative. They can burn things, but what's the point of that unless you're doing it for industrial purposes. They can make a target for pet attention, but without the ability to ever catch it, I think it's cruel to torment them with it. Again, just my personal opinion.

I started the Laser Blast thread here to see what we can come up with that goes beyond the fantasy, if gathered together with our toys. Some contest of skill perhaps? A contest of power for each wavelength? Show 'n tell? Integration with art? New product ideas?

my bff likes burning things. she drew pics in a wooden board i have... so some chicks do find them interesting :) she drew simba... similar to the one rafiki makes on the tree and says "it is time" and LOL and some other stuff. lol. we used my 8xBR in jayrobs heat sink so we could use it for some time to make pics. XD i'm 24 and she's younger than me by only a few years... what can i say? we find it fun still... even though our pics are a bit childish. LOL.

Just because she used your laser once to draw a picture doesn't mean she's interested in lasers, in says she's interested in drawing!

Are there ANY female members of this forum???
I know of Susie from O-like and Merry from laserlands.

Any formal female hobbyist would be a nice addition to the forum :)

C'mon. We can't really count women who's interest is required by their job, can we? My guess is that their interest is in selling products to the guys.
You asked for female members in general...
My answer is as general as your question :D

Anyhow...
As far as I can tell you, girls are generaly not interested in lasers.
One friend I know almost made my roommate blind with one of my blurays, she asks me to put away my lasers every time she sees me with one. She is aware what damage she almost caused.

Other are generaly amused, but not interested in how it works, as with any other techological wonders that are cool.

Women and lasers appear not to go together... but who says you cannot have both ?

If there was a laser that made a sandwich, cooked bacon or buttered bread then maybe you could have both.

If one feels the need to answer this question, they need to work on their self esteem or realize that the person asking the question is trying to exert some kind of control over them..

I do it to entertain myself and to keep my brain from turning to mush. I don't need to "justify" it to anyone

There are female hobbyists in this forum and in the hobby at large. They just do not put it in our faces. Women "techies" get tired of having geeks perv over them. I will absolutely grant that they are an abject minority.

I appear to have been misunderstood.

Dave, you should have spoken before I made a fool out of myself. :D

Anyhow, I don't see why would women be 'dissed' here, instead of welcomed!
BTW, what is 'abject'?

I didn't say "dissed" (disrespected). I said "perv over" (to view in a salacious manner).
Although I will grant that some would argue that those are the same thing.
Trust me. We have seen it before.
It only takes this much (below) to have some geeks drooling on their keyboards and asking the young lady to post a picture of herself for them to save

Literally, abject refers to one's low station in life. However, it is also used to simply describe a very small or low position. An abject minority would be the smallest or lowest numbers there are

Well I thought that in such context it is the same thing, that is why I said 'disrespected', I do not like to repeat other's words, if oyu know what I mean...

Anyhow, I take your word for it about witnessing it.

And just hanging out near you in this forum enriches my vocabulary GREATLY.
:thanks:

It is a matter of the nature of the relationship. For some any "perving" would be disrespectful. However, even though I highly respect the woman in my life, I usually look at her with a salacious eye

i've fallen for my bff, it's complicated, but for now i'm still into her XD i do believe in all is fair and love and war though... she is single so if u wanted to flirt with her go right ahead. LOL. i'm just speaking in theory if u did know her in real life XD but yeah she finds them cool. she doesn't have the electronic knowledge herself nor the resources to buy a laser, but she finds them pretty.

Just because she used your laser once to draw a picture doesn't mean she's interested in lasers, in says she's interested in drawing!

i didn't mean she's into lasers as much as other people here, but the fact that she doesn't just ignore them. and no it doesn't only show interest in art, it's the tool that makes it fun. just like when we drew with sidewalk chalk... it had nothing to do with being artistic. we just enjoyed playing with chalk, but in essence in a way that enjoyment is a form of art, that type of "art" is true of almost everything though :p

she finds them pretty to have and fun to burn (of course i let her use safety glasses :D), but she wouldn't spend money nor does she have any electronics experience to build them. it's like playing video games, you dont have to crack out on it or be top tier to say you enjoy video games, it can be a casual interest.

being aroused is fine and natural. to deny it would just be fooling one's self. i think the main thing is you don't let it dictate how you are around them. like you must acknowledge your hormones, but yet choose not to let it control you and instead see the woman before you for who and what she is :p at least that's how i see it.

plus it's good to find your woman attractive even after the years that past.

even though it's susie's job as part of o-like to deal with lasers, she probably wouldn't be doing it if she didn't like it. why don't u guys just ask her if she enjoys lasers or if she just does it as a job? LOL. for all you know maybe she loves it.

i don't believe in man and woman hobby categories. i do "woman hobbies" as well as "man hobbies". even in developmental psychology they wonder if girls like what they do cuz society says so or cuz girls are just not that interested. i personally think it's society more than anything else. even my sis says that girls in electric engineering are rare and even in computer programming. that's the kinda stuff she's into. i'm sure there are female laser enthusiast, even ones at the level of people on this forum, but they just haven't joined or posted much if at all.

sorry if it seems like i flooded this thread, i just didn't want to put like 3 ideas in one post and have people be like "wtf is all this random crap?" XD or make the person think these comments were directed at them. and sorry X2 to original poster for posting off topic stuff. XD

That´s much more interesting than the primary thread!
Do you think Susie, Faona and Marry have personal lasers?
