Who has the laser with the best divergence

my ledshoppe 30mw has pretty good divergence at .8mrad but the beam is 3mm wide at the apperature.
my PD PRO is not that great at 1.4mrad which is a little under spec but thats alright
 





I just looked it up on the divergence calculator; if the beam is 1mm at 1 foot, a divergence of .2mrad would make the beam 7 feet wide at 11 km. Doesn't look like it.
 
yes thats correct 2.2 meters
your eye is roughly .79 square centimeters at night
that beam is 38000 square centimeters at 11km
which gives me at the most .2mW in your eye...
hmm i swear i saw laser_ben say that it could in another thread maybe it was 1.9km not 11.9....
that would give you about 1100 square cm
which would put about 7mW in your eye. that is probably what he said i doubt he messed up the calculation.
 
Still... 7mW isn't gonna blind you.

well 7mw is class IIIb which by definition can cause eye damage before you can blink. blind. damage. same thing right? :p
 
I have a ~100mW 473nm CNI that diverges at .5mrad full-angle. I also have 2 "aixiz" 50mW lab-style 532nm lasers which also have .5mrad divergence.
 
my 900mW red build has a divergence of 13mRad... do i win?

JK, my 900mW 16x 405nm has such a low divergence that i cannot measure it... its probably around 0.2-0.5mRad, maybe lower i have no way to tell.

i wanted to bump this thread, because it would be cool to see what people have nowadays. sorry though, i know its a 7 year old thread...

I made this video a while back and it shows a 1w 405nm laser burning my leather wallet from 90 feet away. I do believe these lasers have the lowest divergence so far. Even better then my reds. I just figures that the least visible color gets the best divergence.

and this video burns a hole through a cd case at 90 feet away. and its all done with a 3 element lens nothing more

I wish they could make a 1w single mode 520nm. that would be the be all end all of laser diodes lol
