where do you guys buy your lens mounts for your scanners?

Did you look at the picture of the breakout board? It has a bunch of different labled ports.

I will draw a diagram later....I dont have a printer scanner near me so i will have to do it on saturday...

I will label that on the diagram.

^Dude, you haven't even bothered to look at the pictures of the breakout board. If you had, you would have already clearly seen the pinout labels. They're right there. I don't mind helping people, but if you're not even going to look at the links we've given you, what's the point?

I really can't make the description of breakout board any more simple. Any time you build something yourself, you have to supply all the parts yourself including the connectors. They don't just magically appear all by themselves. The breakout board is just a connector. A very conveniently labeled connector. That's all. Just a connector. I can't see what's not to understand about that.

I mean, if you build something that will need to use a printer cable, it stands to reason that you'll need to have connectors in the device to plug the cable in to right? Just like the people who built your house put wall outlets for you to plug you electronic stuff into. They didn't just magically appear.. someone put them there. That's all the breakout board is is a connector. That it. Just a connector. I shouldn't have to draw a diagram of a connector. There are plenty of pictures right there on the DZ laser website.

I'm very willing to help you, but if you can't understand a connector then frankly building a scanner is NOT something you want to do.

i have looked through all the pictures, i just thought for a second that muffin man was talking about the ILDA pinouts.

im sorry, im trying to remember so much stuff that im gettin some things mixed up.
i have seen all of the pictures of the breakout board, and all of the ports.

can i post pictures of laser-mans new 1.45W scanner and ill see if i can identify anything and anyone can correct me if im wrong.

are the labels right?
where do the cables to the right on the first picture go to?

In the top picture, you notice how the bottom connector on the right hand side of the box looks like a printer cable? The breakout board is on the inside of the scanner and is what that plugs into. The printer cable leads away from the scanner to the DAC, which is in turn connected to a PC via USB.

Alright, here's some common sense stuff. If you've got an electronic device that doesn't use batteries and it has two cables coming out of it then one of them has to be power, right? The other connector above the printer cable is the power.

The big black box in the bottom picture is a computer power supply that Andy put in there to power all the fans, most likely. The other thin black box is the laser power supply, which is where the modulation goes.

No offense was meant in my last post, but the thing is you have to do some research and thinking on your own. I can't spell every last detail out to you because then you wouldn't be building your DIY scanner, you'd be building my DIY scanner.

Like I said before I have absolutely no problem helping people, but I much prefer it if you do some research on your own. You'll find out much more that I can tell you and on your own terms, so it'll stick better.

okay, ya i actually realized what the top cable was for and the two black boxes after lookin at them for a little bit.

and nahh non taken, i think i should do some more research to but when i look around, i cant seem to fine anything about the breakout board, which is the what im havin a problem with right now.
its not that i dont know what its for, i just done understand where its supposed to go. when you say its "inside the scanner" i get confused cuz i dont see it anywhere.

but i will look around a lot more.
thanks for your help :thanks:

It's pretty small and easily hidden. You don't "need" a breakout board for the system to work. Like I said earlier, you can just solder the connections straight to a blank DB-25 connector from Radio Shack. That's more difficult than just using the breakout board, which is why I highly recommend it.

The DB-25 connector is what that printer cable is plugged in to, so that's another reason you can't see it. I assure you, however, that it is there. That is NOT super glue or magic holding that plug there, so it must be plugged in to something...

Go to PL and type "ILDA breakout board" in the search pane. Then when you've read everything there is there, pump the same search term into Google. I guarantee you will find plenty of info.

Good luck.. After you read around some, if you have more questions, I will be happy to answer them as always!

BASIC wiring. I drew this really fast so it is really messy. I will draw a much more detailed drawing later. I just wanted to give you a basic layout. I will number each thing lol..(i just realized i didnt draw in the gender changer. That goes between # 4 and 7.)

scannerlayout.jpg

1) PC
2) Soundcard
3) LB correction amp
4) DZE connector. You dont seem to understand what this is. It is a board with little "caves" lets call them. These caves are on a cliff. And lets say that the wires are bears. The bears like to go into the caves because it is easier. They would rather not have to hold on to a rock for dear life (soldering the wire to the connector).
5) This is the power connector that plugs into the wall/scanner
6) a power strip. This just allows everything to get plugged into one place. (Cut the end off and solder it to a 3 pronged computer plug. I will post a link of this if you cannot find it on jaycar.com. Search "port" on jaycar.com. You will find it. It is the first one on the list.
7) this is the other DZE connector.
8)Green laser
9) these are the galvos
10) these are the galvo amps
11) this is the entire scanner box. The host if you will..
12) this is the green power supply.

If i missed anything tell me. Sorry for the bad analogy in #4 lol...
