I've got these 2 hosts coming to me....They will be here tomorrow.....pretty good since i ordered them on Jan 3rd from Price Angles. 10 days from ordering to receiving is pretty nice for a chinese website.

I normally stay in the $10 range for host so that i end up with an affordable end price for the kits so that people can afford them. These two went a little over budget. The first one is $15.74 and the second one is $18.30

NOW, this is the one i am really excited about. The host doesn't look like anything special, doesn't really look all that cool or anything.
-----
But i noticed it comes in a presentation box (always a plus)
Includes an 18650 battery!
Comes with a wall charger & car charger!
and you plug the charger directly into the host!
-----

it runs $18.30 for the host. but i think that's a decent price for a host, 2 chargers, 18650 battery and a gift box......
I can't wait to examine it to see how easy it can be modified for lasers.
I'm hoping it's as simple as replacing the stock driver with a flex drive, but you never know what you'll find when you rip open a chinese product.
Who knows, we may even be able to use the stock driver to drive a 445nm diode....
HERE IT IS

The second one i got just because it's crazy looking. I not sure if anyone is already selling this one though.....but i wanted something out-of-the-norm to make into a kit.

So you can recharge the battery without even removing it from the host?
That's good, if the battery cap's threads are less then perfect, they might
strip over time, like on my cheap Focalprice green after 2-3 months.

It looks quite decent as well, I suppose the button is of the clicky-type as opposed
to momentary?
Since it comes with charger and batteries, sounds like a perfect set to "laser up" and resell!:)

The other one? Well, uhhh.... sorry, too effin' WEIRD for my taste.

from what it looks like yeah, you just plug the charger directly into the host. I think there is a port on the opposite side of the switch where the charger plugs in....

i'll know more when i get it in the mail tomorrrow...

I do worry about safety though. If these chargers shut off on their own. Plus you probalby won't wanna use unprotected batteries in this host.
With a heat sink in the end, you enclose the entire thing in metal.....
as a flashlight if the battery exploded the pressure would break through the front most likely.

As a laser, every side is covered with metal, so if the battery tried to explode you'd end up with a very expensive pipe bomb.

So much for Moh takin' a break---lol

cool hosts Matt-

but the second on is a little scary looking and that make actually be a good thing for a 445 build.

just in case someone does not know it- lights like this one have the front like that in case the light must end up being used as a weapon.

hk

I like the 2nd one TBH, kinda looks like something out of Men in Black or Dr Who. Great Idea for the 1st host tho with the chargers and stuff, would suit a 1st build for someone who hasn't bought a charger and batts yet

Yeah, but we haven't started clinicals yet. I'll be doing about two 8 hours shifts a week once we start, that's on top of regular work, school lasers and video games.

but right now i find that even though i don't spend nearly as much time on the lathe, i can get a lot done if i'm constructive with my time. plus sometimes if i have an hour to spare i'll sneak down there and do a tiny bit at a time.

I think I like the first one as well....a little more mellow look and the side clicky is something I have gotten used to and like it from the blue hotlights, and guidesman host.
Just my vote.

I showed your avatar to my GF and she says you can take her pulse anytime--rotfl

These are nice Moh.

I like the first one. What makes it's appealing to me is the ability to charge the battery while it's in the host. It will be interesting to see how they have it wired up. I would assume it has a separate circuit for charging the battery, and the LED driver is another separate circuit.

I've always liked the looks of the second one but what do you have in mind for modding it to allow for easy focusing?

The first one looks like a very good host, I think I'd buy it. The second one is way to Romulan for me

There seems to be some heatsinking potential, mostly with the second example. One way to find out ;)

I'm not sure yet :D
I'll have to think of something.....
