Because there is something called progress. As faster cpu's , memory etc.. come out, the operating systems can make better use of those capacities and features.

Sure a model T takes you from point A to point B , but wouldnt it be better to point B with air conditioning and better gas mileage?

Hey Slip....

Don't get me wrong.. I'd love a Lamborghini in the Driveway for some
envy...Flash and personal satisfaction of having a great toy...
But my 1991 Honda with 400,000 clicks on it runs just great and gets me
where I want to go in a hurry...

I just don't have the $$$$ to buy the next "better" computer or OS that
comes out every 6 months.. and I just don't NEED it to run my Business
or my life at the present time... it is NOT a necessity... just a new toy..

Where is the logic in buying a 747 to just cross the street if crossing the
street is all you NEED to do...

If YOU think you NEED to look cool crossing the street in your 747 then
by all means get one... I'm not going to influence you not to...

Likewise... my Model T does exactly what I NEED (and more) and no-one
will change my mind... (unless they have gift computer they need to send
me)

@ Rob... You see it exactly the way I see it... (Logic is so simple...;))

@ Lasher....
There was already a similar but more serious Poll in October 2009....

The Space Shuttle uses IBM 5150(s).

Granted it is the "updated" version with a full ONE MEGABYTE (MB) of RAM.

The vast majority of us own WAYYYYYYY more computing capability than we will EVER need.

If anyone is seriously interested. you could potentially drop c0ld a PM and ask him to approximate the results he gets from Google Analytics. Analytics can see pretty much anything about a user's machine, from browser to OS, screen size to Java version and much more. I wouldn't expect the results to look too different to this, however - these were taken from a forum I was monitoring, now dead. Chrome will now have a larger marketshare, and mobile devices may have slightly more traffic. Also, Safari on windows is probably much lower.

I haven't had a single virus or spyware since I switched to firefox. It's the noobs that open email attachments, don't read installations, visit shady sites, and do generally reckless things that get viruses and spyware.

...as a matter of cat...

ROTFL, another win vs mac war ? ..... there's not enough wars around, already ? ..... :p :D

Anyway ..... well, i started with a DAI, then passed to an Atari, then to a 286 (msdos 2.0, ftw :p), then to a 386 (and win2.0, lol), so you know i'm too old, now :p .....

And, actually, i'm using win ..... sticked to XP, cause, more or less, they made it ALMOST working like a real OS, with all the patches, bugfixes and modifications they've made (just in time for take it out from the market and change it with a new bunch of bugs dressed as a new OS, LOL :p) ..... and this, mainly cause most of the programs i need for my work, are only for win, or there's no cheap and good equivalents for the other 2 systems.

Just figure that, when XP come out, i waited 2 years before abandon w2k, just waiting that it start to really resemble an OS, LOL .....

And, with troubles and too few time, trying to learn enough about linux for have the possibility, one day, to compare them and decide what is better (at the moment, i don't know enough it for decide).

Used mac only a pair of times, and except gimp, i found it not attractive enough, too much closed, too much "proprietary system", and, in definitive, not enough good for that what i need (and also in this case, is not an expert judice, cause i'm not a mac expert for make a decent and complete comparation ..... that what i got is just a personal feeling)

There should be a fourth choice for those of us that have multiple machines running on different platforms ;)

LOL I have a Captain Zilog poster somewhere... and I have an IBM Diskette (an 8 inch floppy) on the bookshelf.

I recall when I bought my first new car in 1973 the sales guy used a PC with a cassette deck to arrange the financing. It took a loooong time, rewinding and fast-forwarding seeking and writing data. Wow.
