Biased from the get-go if you didn't vote like him...
At first glance this Poll looked very similar in presentation...

We only know from what we read... so no need to get angry at members

To be honest I'm all three types of computer geek. I love Windows 7, epecially after Vista. Microsoft hit the nail on the head with this OS

I have a Macbook Pro and love OSX but although the OS is near perfect its terrible for gaming.

I also use Linux, while more difficult to use, I enjoy the level of openness it provides.

Being a computer geek I think it's limiting to stick to just one OS, everyone has different tastes and I like to be able to help anyone who needs it, no matter what OS it is. I find that most people that bash the other OS's have either never used them or have just been unlucky in their experiences.
 
Hey Rob... I hear what you're saying... I'm an old school DOS guy...

And I have tried the other OSs out there on my and my friend's computers...
I just don't have a need for anything other than a DOS/Windows computer...
It does exactly what I require to run my business and design any programs...
I am currently running in Win 2000 Pro (for about 2 years now) and have no
issues... or any real need to upgrade...
Why fix the car if nothing is wrong with it...

Yeah... Yeah... Yeah... I can here all the elite computer geeks that were not
even born when I had my 1st computer... screaming ... "Ya gotta get Win7"...

That will happen when I NEED it or the car is broken..

I completely understand what you're saying Jerry. You're a prime example of a user that is completely satisfied with something that suits their needs. Everyone has their own preferences and their own likes. Most people are genuinely happy with Windows and don't see the point in OSX, others are happy with XP and see no reason to upgrade to 7. If it's not broke, don't fix it, seems to be a lot of people's mentality and that's perfectly ok.

Myself though, I like to be on the bleeding edge of technology and keep update with all the latest and greatest.

That's pretty neat you're an old DOS guy, I grew up on DOS myself. LOL. I remember running Windows 3.1. Hahaha.

Personally I try to live by the motto, "To each his own." I respect everyone's decision and don't bash them on their personal preferences.

Edit: Yeah Windows 7 is awesome, but the hassle to upgrade from anything but Vista just isn't worth it in my opinion.

Because there is something called progress. As faster cpu's , memory etc.. come out, the operating systems can make better use of those capacities and features.


Sure a model T takes you from point A to point B , but wouldnt it be better to point B with air conditioning and better gas mileage?

True... But what he has suits his needs and he doesn't NEED anymore. Sure there are faster processors, better ram, and stronger video cards but if he doesn't utilize them, what's the point?

Techies seem to think that since they NEED to have the latest that everyone else does.

You have to realize that everyone's needs differ, not everyone needs 1GB of DDR5 Video ram, a 2.93GHz Quad core, and 2TB HD.

If the "end user" doesnt have a need for a faster machine, that doesnt mean that the IT principal should not try to find a more economic, efficient way of doing the same thing.

For example.. If he gets a faster machine , and installs a virtual machine with windows 2000 running in the virtual machine , he can have a faster machine to lets say use a beefier accounting program (i.e quickbooks 09) and still run whatever programs he needs to run in a windows 2000 environment in the background. All of this made possible by progress.

The basic need is not taken away but instead its enhanced. If given the chance to test drive a machine with those qualities , I think he would take it.

I did not give any specific specs to a machine .
 
I know what you're saying, but why pay the extra cost for something he sees no use for?

At our office most of our machines run XP on old Pentium 4 processors, we have no need to spend the money to upgrade all our systems to just run things faster when our needs are currently met. Eventually yes, but for now we don't NEED it.

As to the specs I cited, I was merely using them as an example.

I also used Windows and don't have any viruses. Linux isn't bad but lacks support for many softwares I use frequently that wont run under wine.

Macs suck, simple as that :p
 
I am a die hard Windows and Linux fan....but the simple truth is....Mac's don't suck.
They are pretty decent.

All OS have their own benefits.

ROB....You and I think a like. I agree with everything you have posted in this thread.
