You're worrying about the wrong things. What's the host? Heatsink? Driver? Got a lens?
 
^ Yep. Switches are the least of your worries, you're going to need a driver, module, lens and a heatsink before you can even think of powering it up.
 
you cant switch that on and off fast enough to regulate a safe current.
 
You still don't answer my question. I will be putting in a metal can and use modules from online and swap the diode.
 
No problem with the shown switches. The red laser use a few hundered mA current and that isn't enough to stress the switches.
 
The switches are fine. As for a power source the battery is dependant on what driver you want to use. You don't hook a laser diode directly up to a battery unless your goal is to see how quick you can blow your diode. You will have to use a driver circuit to regulate the power supply to the diode.
