what should the new Kryton be??

I'm starting to like the sound of a modular C-ryton, though a modular labby would be AWESOME :D

figured I'd post this since it's an example of the difference between multimode and singlemode laser diodes. Now this is probably with the bream nicely focused down.

This does almost suggest that multimode is better. In fact, multimode can be less tightly collimated and have more divergence. So isn't the spot supposed to be larger in the photo?

I don't care! I've gotten used to my pulsar's 4.5mm beam and I can do the same with a <1cm beam of 150mW 635nM! How bright would 150mW 635nM be compared to 100mW of 650nM?

maybe 3 times as bright.

Or instead of different heads for the same host, how about you make a one size fits all?
Like a mount for C-mounts and a mount for 5.6mm diodes within it. That way, you only have to make one laser body and the user can still choose.

Was exactly what I was planning on doing. I've decided on exactly what I'm going to offer from the next run. there will be the following host up for the next GB:

1. Kryton Groove
2. Larger Head barrel with 9mm and c-mount in one head.
3. AAA sized side mount host
4. Labby (block) style module with 5.6mm and c-mount insertion points.

I like that one! Which one would be cheaper? (of 150mW 635nM) 9mm diode or a C-mount diode?

(Thanks for the answer jamilm9!)

nobody knows? :-?

probably c-mount but maybe not.(sorry not much help.)

OK, (you don't have to answer this jamilm9) but what are the prices?

I'm waiting on a price quote right now for 635nm in C,Q,9mm, and TO-3 packages from 100-600mW 8-) we'll see

Cool, thanks! Ask for the prices if we buy a lot, like a GB! (I want 150mW 8-))

This is an example of what the labby would look like.

Now, I've toyed with the idea of having these anodized black as well and am of a mixed feeling.
1. anodizing is a barrier for air flow to allow for wicking of heat from the surface.
2. additional cost
3. only aesthetics being the main purpose
4. black is better at thermal transfer but is it offset by the barrier created by anodizing.

There's no doubt that the black green labby modules look slick.  however given they will mostly be put inside of scanners and spyrographs there's not much to see once it's all closed up.

Oh and the threads for the lens on this module is 16mm deep so that if your wanting to go for a c-mount, you can adjust the focus way out there.  Elsewise it will be completely recessed for bluray or reds.

My thanks again to the wonderful rendering job done by Scog!!!
