What lights do you have?

Reflector is screwed in actually, hmmmm missed that option. Anyways this thread will show you how to tear it down further. If me, I wouldnt remove the reflector. You risk getting fingerprints on it and when you wipe it clean you really ruin the reflector.

The "Other" Ebay US clone Sky Ray King - Mini review and tear down. | BudgetLightForum.com

OK thanks! I am debating on whether to keep this as a light, or tear it down and build a kickass laser into it :)

As a flashlight, it outshines ANY flashlight any of my friends have, and they are WOWed by this light

But laser would be cooler!

The only thing keeping me from making this into a laser is the switch... It is a cheap temporary on switch. Could it handle 2 amps through it? How could i replace it? (either a clicky or a temporary on is fine...

For $45 this light was on the expensive side... I dont want to ruin it and then not be able to make a kickass laser :(

Thanks
-Matt

Yeahhhhhhhh okay, have you seen my flashlights above and the prices of them? Go take another gander.....Mvn was $215

Anyways, heatsink will cost you a good amount but MrCrouse has done them for a SRK before. Ask Speedy how much it was, he bought it.

As for switch, I have no idea. I dont deal with the SRKs since IMO they are useless. They have horrible heatsinking as a flashlight and heat up in 5 minutes to the point where its too hot to hold. Ill stick with my SL3 for a triple XM-L light.

Might be easier to ask BLF on the switch issue. I know they mod them and bump the current alot so I'd think it can handle upwards of 6A

Just received a black SRK from FT :)

I've only tested it with one ultracrap battery and even then it's extremely bright.
Once I get my 4 protected 3400mah panas in the mail I'll test it out for real :D

The finish on the light is extremely shiny with zero scratches or dents,
which I was suprised by

And an Ultrafire C20, which is surprisingly light and compact.

However unlike the SRK the C20 had minor scratches near the head :yabbmad:
I took it hiking with me for a whole week and it didn't die, went through rain and the ocean and it's still kicking.
I opened the reflector and battery holder and there was no signs of leakage which is awesome

A full extensive review of both lights is in the works but don't expect them to soon.

Thanks a million to all those who helped me out in my endless stream of questions.
And especially to Infinitus and Livinloud for helping me throughout the process

Welcome  two resident lumen addicts strike again :eg: now half the community will learn what a real flashlight is

^^^Disagree

I would never suggest someone buy a custom, modified, turbo'd, etc., light as their first flashlight. Rather, I would suggest something affordable with a decent combination of lux, lumens, and spread, while not having to opt for dangerous battery chemistries.

You, on the other hand, already know how generic, normal lights perform. Apparently, you are an addict too  Me, I never shot up, so I am not hooked on using. I read, read read, and am definitely hooked on ideas. Ideas that my wallet won't let me fulfill :undecided: Still looking for decent hemispherical reflectors on the cheap, even though I really don't care for uber=throwy lights.

Why don't you have an OMGLumens/OSTS light? You may be able to find one second-hand for a decent price

Deft-X =~$900 and I got the K40vn for $165. I am still waiting for someone to do a Deft-X vs K40vn throw down. I bet you the K40vn will hold its own VERY well if not out do the Deft-X in some aspects. OSTS, I looked a few of them but again iirc they are over priced compared to what I can get from Vinh.

Yes I agree to never suggest a modded light as a first light, I got Travish hooked on lights after selling him a few of my cheaper lights while I was upgrading to modded lights. Now he has a K40vn and a custom aspheric thrower that I modded. Loves them all, but his wallet, like both of ours, doesnt

I keep telling myself to stop buying flashlights but I just picked up a Xtind X3 last night since I dont have any higher powered lights that run on primaries so yes it will have a KingKong in it but I'll keep the carrier and eneloop AA's in the glove box so I'm set for everything!

BTW if anyone has $2400 to spend on the ultimate throwing machine then take a look at the XM18vn or just take a look to drool: CandlePowerForums

I have plenty of lights that will outdo the DEFT-X in various regards. None compare with OSTS's lux figures, though. And mine outdo DEFT-X in things that don't matter, for the most part (I have one with a nicer finish than the DEFT-X, I have one that puts out more lumens than the DEFT-X, I have one that is lighter than the DEFT-X, I have many that are cheaper!) I do believe DEFT-X has been tweaked and is putting out around 1,000,000Cd, compared to k40vn's estimated 400,000Cd. Alas, I heard that Saabluster's licensing with the optic designer is about to expire. If I were the manufacturer, I would NOT let that happen, esp. considering the designer's other product offerings are extremely lackluster. I do believe Vin's got an "all-around" category that he's gonna attempt to fill, curious to see what his feature priority looks like.

Now, that xm18 is a monster! I can see how it gets its lux at 10 ft: sheer power! DEFT-X still beats it, but to get that lux just from sheer wall of light :eg:

The intended purpose for this light is for next time the stadium lights go out during an important event; 8 people with these in their hands and bam, no need to wait for the metal halides to warm up! ;)

I still dont see the point of the Deft-X. Its just a K40/TN31 styled light with insane lux. Is the $750 higher price tag worth it, heck no! Higher lux = harder to see what you are looking at, at closer range. Who wants 1M cd at 0-200 yards, no one. The beam light is too intense and your eyes will not know what is there. Although I love throwers, how often do we use them for longer than 100 yards, rarely, at least me.

I also agree OSTS and OMGLumen lack in product selection. Vinh will mod any light you send him and offers something like 20 lights right now, 16340 > 26650 and primary lights! Thats why so many people love his lights, plus he gives options in tints, current, etc... while Deft-X = what OMGLumen wants to make, boring :na:

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it isn't the best tool for certain situations. I wouldn't have any use for a deft, just like I don't have any use for a laser over 5mW. Doesn't mean that if I could make something similar I wouldn't.

And then there are the folks who get one just to say they have one of the world's longest throwing LED lights. Not a fan of collectors, but they have their purpose ;-)

Fenix Tk75vn, btu shockervn, convoy m1 xml2, Mx25l3vn, d40avn :D

All but one are "vn" lights. !
Two are 5 star vn's.

I hear that tk61 is going to out throw most of the lights out there. Nice buy. Be sure to let us know when it comes in.

I'm going to see what Vinh can do with the TK61, before getting it. Also maybe missed it, but I can't find the reflector depth anywhere. With a dedome, and current boost it has the potential to be a monster.

Edit: Holy crap... that's a bright little light you have there weirdmeister.

I was thinking the same thing about waiting for vinh. Now I haven't been looking at stock lights when I know vinh will turn them into so much better, for really not to much more money.
