What laptop brand should I buy?!






I'm not big on HP... Everyone I know who has one has complained about their customer service.  Even in warranty, from what I've heard, HP just doesn't do the job or screws it up.  Like my dad, he had a bad screen on his laptop, he sent it in, took them about a month to get it back AND they reformatted his hard drive?!?


And, that thing was $1700USD??  I'm guessing because you got a high-end brand new processor?  Are you wanting this for mobile gaming or something?  Otherwise, daily activities would be just as good on the much cheaper, older processors that are only slightly slower.

Is $2000 expensive for a laptop in America? Because here in Australia, a decent laptop at the shops is around $2000-$2500... I think if I bought this this same laptop at Harvey Norman, it would probably cost around $2500+.

I'm going to use the new laptop for some gaming, and multimedia stuff such as MS office 2007 and Adobe masters collection, I'm making a website for a school assignment at the moment and it drives me crazy because the laptop I have now takes so long to load it. It also lags when I watch movies/TV dramas on a freshly formatted hard drive.

I've never had a HP laptop before, but a friend of mine has a Compaq, which I believe is the same as a HP, and when I was versing him on counterstrike, his laptop stayed very cool and my Toshiba was boiling hot. The outside plastic of my laptop was quite hot, and the hot air coming from the air vent burnt my hand, it even made my icy water go warm :o :-X From this I think HP designs would be good, and Toshiba's suffer overheating problems...

I suppose the electronics could have a higher cost over there... you can get basic Core2Duo laptops from Dell here for ~$800USD.
 
Based on your choices posted I'm sure your biased against a MAC. I have a MacBook Pro. It also runs XP. (your not forced to use Vista) I have had it a full year now and I still can say i do not wish i had a newer or faster computer. People told me all the time at college they wished they had one. Also PC magazines gaming laptop of the year. Has a dedicated graphics card which i believe is amazing. Price is a little rough. I saved for mine and do not regret it one bit.

So essentially I recomment a MacBook Pro.
Good luck with whatever you get.
Also my sister had an $1500 HP. They gave her a $2000 replacement due to problems like a year later. Together they lasted perhaps as long as my computer should. But they do honor their warrantees.

Here in Australia, around $800AUD gets you a laptop with a 2.0ghz celeron processor at Harvey Norman:P
 
Asus all the way - I havent had a single problem with mine, and the trackpad is extremely high quality.
 
those gateway notebooks look really cool

especially for the full sized keyboard and keypad.





i'd choose one of those if i had the money.
