What brought you to LPF

Astronomy family members who have massive amounts of lasers. Ever since I was little they gave me quite a good collection each year. I checked out this forum in the early 2009-10 but didn't register or anything, just passed by.
They mentioned about a new 7W diode they got and it led me back here to inquire more. Styropyro's videos were somehow involved since it was the first video I saw about the NUBM44 but I used to watch him way before having any deep interest in lasers.

Haha, pretty sure everyone watched Styropyro's videos and drooled over his creations before being introduced to the forum.

My tracking number says it left China on the 6th, though it hasn't updated since then.

My bet is it's being poked at by customs agents. Hopefully they won't take too long!

Did you get global speedpost express? If not, there's a chance it won't ever update, it will just be checked, handled, sorted and delivered to your door. Well, that's how Canada post works, but it could be the same for the USA.

As a reader, my interest in star pointers for astronomy got me into reading the forum occasionally since it was only about three years old. Almost 7 years later I finally made an account to get tips on a science experiment and to look for some better quality stuff.

I actually stumbled across one of Wicked Lasers videos about "the most powerful laser in the world". It looked pretty sweet, and I really wanted one. But I decided to actually do some research first, before spending several hundred dollars on one (since at the time, they still shipped to the U.S.). And found myself browsing through this forum! Glad I did too! I learned the safety aspects first, (which wasn't even mentioned at the WL site) and ended up getting a 3W 445nm in a MX900 for less then half the cost of what I would of spent through Wicked Lasers! It's not as flashy as the WL hosts, but it's still pretty cool! :D

If you're not tracking it with USPS, try their website. I found they have much more data and update more often than other/foreign carriers coming into the USA, especially for goods from China.

I chose the standard shipping option. It's been updated three times. (Item processed, item ready to leave, and item left.)

Though what you're saying would make sense.

I've tried, it says 'USPS tracking is unavailable for this product for HONG KONG'.

I came here in search of the mega watt hand held.......I'm still waiting for you guys to share those pics......

p.s. Elly the tracking may update a lot all at once, but SANWU will deliver, the slow boat from China can take a few weeks, I get the speedy post, took me 6 business days.

I guess I would have to credit Styropyro to that. my first real taste of lasers was when I followed his How to build a blue/ violet burning laser
Back in fall 2008-9 I use to come across lpf a lot when looking up lasers but Actually was frustrated with it because at the time I did not like forums. eventually as my interest grew I caved and made an account :tinfoil:

The earliest time I can remember getting into lasers was when I bought a cheapo "50mW" 532 and took it over to France with me when I went to visit my dad. Boy did I have fun with that thing! Of course, never shone it at people but did shine it on buildings(away from windows) and on sidewalks in front of people!

From there I join the hobby, actually I think it was in the Fall of that same year after coming back to the States and started buying real quality pointers! :)

After getting my 532nm, 20mW for my astronomy, I decided to search on what other lasers were available.
Google led me straight to here and the rest, as they say, is history.

I've been interested in lasers for years. Planned on buying one at varying times over the last 5 or so years, but never pulled the trigger. The power of the diode lasers keep increasing and I have been having a hard time making a decision. So, after lurking on this forum for months, I decided to join and learn a little more before making a purchase. I can see how this can become addictive.

Wow, it was a while back so I don't know it I can recall the specifics.
I am kind of embarrassed to say this, but I think I first got interested when I saw one of kipkay's videos about using DVD laser diodes:yabbem::yabbem:..(don't tell anyone else:D). I had a DVD that I could play with, so I kept looking online for more info and stumbled onto this wonderful, massive collection of knowledge on LPF. Naturally I kept on reading until I joined on 12-12-12.
And the rest is history.:gun:
