Since this forum is largely technical and scientific I would think that many of you watch and read science fiction. We had a thread before about movies with lasers in them, and there was also a very short thread about time travel movies.

It would be interesting to see what many of you think are the best SciFi movies ever made. Tell us about them, write a review or post a trailer or a scene from the movie.

I'll begin with one of my favorites, it's difficult to choose the best ones but I would put Blade Runner in the top 5 for sure. The movie was released June 25, 1982 starring Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, and Edward James Olmos, directed by Ridley Scott, based on the story:
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (retitled Blade Runner: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? in some later printings) is a science fiction novel by American writer Philip K. Dick. First published in 1968.

Here is an original trailer for the movie:

I really enjoyed Apollo 18. The story is of a "secret" space mission launched by NASA after the final flight of Apollo 17, and follows the adventure of 2 astronauts as they explore the moon on a science mission, however, everything isn't as expected once they arrive.

Alaskan even said it looked way to scary for him. I liked it, though it did freak me out at times :yh:

Despite my lineage, I don't purport to be an expert on Sci Fi, other than to say that I do not agree that fantasy is part of that genre. I had to laugh when I saw this post because I agree that Blade Runner is at the top. If asked what is my favorite movie of all time, that is the movie I generally pick.

Others are Inception which is also an all time favorite, his other movie, Memento, also a favorite may not quite be sci fi, Brazil, 12 Monkeys, Escape From NY, War of the Worlds, Men In Black, Cube, Fahrenheit 451, Soylent Green, A Clockwork Orange, Roller Ball, Altered States, Contact, The Time Machine, The Man Who Fell to Earth, ET, Mad Max, Tron, The Matrix, Minority Report, Total Recall, Forbidden Planet, Terminator, Alien, Planet of the Apes, Close Encounters, 2001 a Space Odyssey...just to name a few

best sci fi movies are as follows in my opinion. Close Encounters, Abyss, Robocop first one, Star wars of course, Star Trek all of them, Ice Pirates, space balls for the comedy, Et, Alien, Jupiter Ascending, The last star fighter, enemy mine, Blade runner, Fifth Element, critters for the horror sci fi, Earth Girls are Easy, Barbarella, ID4, Mars Attacks, Battle Ship, those are just some of the ones I like I will have to think of more later
