Using a laser as a defense weapon

Against a boar or bear? Are you nuts?

If I'm up against a bear, I'd like something with a lot of firepower... not something the bear can use as a toothpick after dinner.
 





I dont know what kind of bear you are going to encounter, but the ones here in the states all you have to do is yell at them and they move on... An airhorn would prob make one run strait up a tree...
 
I'll take polar bear for $100 please.

Maybe I am being paranoid, but bottom line is you don't want to bring a laser when you need a gun. Or an air horn for that matter.

I have used Bear spray.....and its nasty. I'd suspect even PCP hopped up individuals would be affected.

Shotgun would be most handy. 3in magnum slugs alternating with 3in 00buck.

A laser would be very ineffective deterant.

The stray cats who feast in the dumpster nearby are not very effected by a laser of any color or power- My neighbor was outside with me and before i could say stop he shined my 350mW green directly into one cats eyes- it just sat there and did not flee.
That I cannot understand.

I was in a store's food court and these was a large gackle(blackbird) sitting on the metal girders near the ceiling- it shit on one of the nearby tables which forced me to try and run it off with a 200 mW green- and it worked quite well. but a few minutes later it flew back and eventually was overhead- so- animal lover or no- this bird had to go- it avoided the laser a little but soon must have had no fear and no amount of beaming would scare it off- i just left the area.

I would take a boat air horn over a laser for wild boars.
Pepper spray would need to be used accurately and quickly to do more than just piss a big boar off.

that bear detterant spray is absolutely the nastiest thing.....it will melt human skin.


Its been proven more effective than a random panic shot from a higher end firearm at detering an attack.

It shoots about 30 feet in a cone pattern. This ain't pepper spray......its much much worse.

Of course its more manly to shoot than use a deterrant....but using your brain as a weapon is the ultimate satisfaction. chemical warefare....and the Bear or Boar will be ok in a day or so.

Have you tried pissing around the perimeter of your property to give the impression that some big other animal is marking its territory?

I'd ask you to bequeath me that laser after you die from gunshot wounds, but I think the assailant would take it home as a souvenir; so there'd be no point.

Still, if I see that case on the news, I'll be sure to leave a legacy for you in the FAIL thread.

A little scared of guns are we? Lol

It's a thought - if I'm not within arms-reach distance, the laser would be up there on the list of things to stop him with.
 
Got rid of my collection hitshane..

only kept a few "survival" Guns
.223
12G
9mm Pistol and rifle
22. Pistol and riflle
.308

Except for the .22 combo.....the others are standard Nato calibers.


At one time i had 25 firearms... So seven guns now feels weak. ( i still have my .44 but its not a survial gun as the ammo is not common.)


Using a laser as a defensive weapon.....risky. If the lasing doesn't work you can use the laser as a small club of sorts.

When threaten ANYTHING can be a weapon.....a rock a pencil what ever is handy.

I hate this subject because of the laser ethics debate it spins up every single time. The truth is you can use a laser as a weapon, the problem is as our world has evolved over time different species have adapted to their habitats and therefore are more sensitive to different wavelengths, and while some people here would rather see you eaten alive than see a poor little animal blinded, yes you can in fact blind some things with a green laser, some things with a red laser, and some things with a violet laser, but our world is diverse and your foes are many, it's not a stretch to think something could charge at you that you have no clue what wavelength to attack with, and your efforts could be useless. So take a knife or a gun, because where energy weapons fail, you'll need a kinetic backup.
