This one is great as a cheap phonecam macro. Haven´t experienced a lot with it, but it´s fun and again it´s cheap! Uses 3 x LR1130 batteries, has 2 light settings, UV or white light.

Tripods are always useful. The small ones are very useful and cheap. I won´t use them for my cam, but for a pen style laser, including a clamp, they´re fine. For the cam I use a Cullmann ALPHA 2500.

That is insane. You can see fingerprints on that blueberry.

I wish camera took better pictures than what it does. I have the sony hx9v point and shoot and there is so much stuff i do not like about it that i liked about my 8+ year old Sony W1.

I need to just make the step to an SLR.

I might just pick this stuff up in hope of one day using it.
 
The macro ringflash is a nice feature. I want one for my own macroshooting.
A good sum up of the macro equipments !
 
Hm. I'll have to try out that ring flash.
I normally don't trust DX with anything over $20 but it looks decent.
Can you post a couple pictures you have taken with the flash? Maybe some leaves or a bug or something so I can see what the lighting looks like in a real world setting. I would really appreciate it!

Canon wants $500 for their macro ring flash...

Did a very quick session, left picture with flash, right picture with flash ring. It´s much easier to get your right focus in darkness as you can illuminate the obejct first. You can also change the brightness to avoid overexposure.

That flash ring looks seriously useful for macros man. I still need to get myself a DSLR...

I've got a Nikon 80-400VR with a Canon 500D close up attachment for it, along with a 1.4 Kenko 300 Pro.

Any idea how well this would work? Its about 1:1 but I think I'm limited to about 1' - 1' 1/2 away from subject.

What distance is the front of the lens from the subject in the pics above with the flash ring?

On topic:
How realistic(compared to true natural sun) do colors end up using that ring flash? I see most LED based lights giving pictures too much blue.

I also love the surface detail enhancement it gave to the wooden frame shot.
 
The lightings are used for the exposure of the photo. If your pictures are looking too blue then change the white balance of the camera. In your case something like daylight shadow. It will make the pictures a much warmer.

If you don't know then use a white balance card. I have a Whibal, Digital Imaging Accessory Review: WhiBal Calibrated White Balance Card

I would also suggest a camera remote shutter (wireless or wired)

That is, if you camera supports one.

It's a real + when making macro shots, sinds pressing the button manually on the camera itself can produce stutter and unclear macro shots.
Even when it's mounted on a tripod, the leggs tend to bent slightly more when you press the button on the camera itself.
Holding your finger on the trigger when you zoomed in (for a macro shot)
You can see the image wiggle when your camera has a direct LCD view display.

I like taking ultra macro pictures using 3-element laser lenses held in front of my phone's camera. That combo allows me to take insanely close macro images very easily. Plus, I have everything needed already so it can't get much cheaper lol.
