Tutorial: Yellow Pointer Project - Cool!

thanks jay, and im sorry for bothering you with this. The closest i got to a customizing person is my great uncle, and before ordering from u, i debated with him, if it was possible, but he isnt a machinist, nor does he have a machine to make things from Al blocks.
He said he could try, but it wouldnt come off really well...so i quit on the idea + he is getting a bit old, and i dont wanna make him do such things!

I really hope you succeed!

Post some pictures if you get it done! :)

of course! When i was younger my favourite color was yellow...then, because of "peer pressure" in elementary i changed it, but wasnt too happy...now i still love yellow...really a great color, and i really want to get "a yellow laser" (on "" because a difraction gratings wouldnt show the yellow light).

But i surelly will upload photos..i just dont upload from my br pen, because it already came built and it isnt that spectacular (well, it is for me...first br laser i saw in person, and the beam...and the dot...and the fluorescence, its great!!)

im just really sad that my phr didnt come or got lost...goin for 2 months next wednesday it has been shipped :cryyy::( or id get photos of that as well

Just one question Jay. The 10440 is an AAA size battery isnt it?
And when u get the N size batteries in the pen, they get the -(minus) at the pen/laser head isnt it?? because i think u can swap the battery holder that u screw to the head for one like the newish like (think its those hosts) ones...i have one br pen, and i think i can swap it out...pointer will get here on monday...its already here in lisbon, now its goin to be delivered on monday i guess. And i will try to swap the battery holder part. in case i succeed, the same guy that sells the br pens, has really cheap green lasers with the exact same dimensions as my BR, and then i will use 2 rechargeable AAA's instead of those N size batteries...

The one I got from DX runs off of a 3 volt supply...

My battery mod using the 10440 uses a silicon diode to drop voltage from a single 10440.

If it requires a 3 volt supply, do not use 2 X 10440's. That's 8 volts!

no no no no no! I know it runs at 3v from 2xN size batteries. What i am saying is that if it is possible to swap the battery holder, i can run it with 2x AAA's (1.5V alkaline each or 1.2V, 1.4V if recharged to max Ni-Mh AAA's)

Ahh... an extension tube for the end of the pointer...

Hey let me know how that works out!

Don't know where you could get one, but that would be cool. Maybe a little long, but a huge capacity...

ok! i hope i really get the pointer on monday, and as soon as i get it ill say if its possible to do such thing.
As i said, im goin to try those battery holders from all the other DX pens. At least i think mine is the same size as those.

ok, pointer here, and as i said, its kinda possible, with some changes.

If u cut the thread part off the laser head (not the battery holder, the thing that screws(the external thread) on the battery holder), and inside the laser head, next to the minus spring, if one another machines a new inside thread for the AAA holder (hat has an external thread) it is possible to switch to a AAA battery holder instead of those nasty N size batts.

u just need a pen from the ebay guy that sells those overspec BR pens (either green or blue, and the battery holder for those pens goes really nicely, and really tight(id say they are really perfect) into the head of the pointer. But as it doenst have a thread to be screwed to it wont go any further, so i suggest a machined thread path.

but do it at ur own risk. althought one another shouldnt have a great problem...id say a key maker to be able to do that...dunno.

(edit)ok, i think that was a bit confusing:
1-Cut off the external thread of the laser head
2-measure the external thread of the AAA holder(so u can machine the thread to fit)
3-Machine a new internal thread in the laser head
4-VOILA! a dual (or triple if u got the mirrors in place) laser pointer that uses 2xAAA bats

ebay lasers:
Green laser pen-cheaper(6.05$ with shipping- US and Europe i guess)
Green pen- free shipping(7.30$ better price for bulk)
BR pen- 10.37$ with shipping- US and Europe i guess
Br pen- free shipping. Again better for bulk

i still dunno if im goin to try that...only if im sure to be able to do that without damaging the laser.
But ill cover this with pics and stuff when i start mounting the mirrors(edit)

@lordkaramazov
For 8.00 bucks more you can get the one that already takes 2xAAA. I know the picture shows the 23A batts but if you read the product description it Runs on the Two supplied AAA batteries. I own one of the 2xAAA versions and still have the original Chinese batts in it after 2 months of playing around with it. Figured i would let you know.

i saw ur post, but what if i got a N ize bat one too?? and what if the quality is different? (well both are made in china)...but i already bought the N size one...

but if u do what i suggested, u get one for less than 8$...but oh well...now i have this one and i have to stick with it..and i think im goin to try what i suggested...

I'd buy one in a heartbeat if they could make a red + violet pointer to make magenta beam. And it would be cheaper and simpler to make than a red + green or violet + green that they have now :banghead:
